wkennerley Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Hi all, finally I have something to push me to build my 1/144 DC-3 in Air Rhodesia colours. I bought this to 'fly' above the n gauge model railway layout I am building - Wayne
mitchem Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Okay, I'm sitting up and paying attention. Edited September 3, 2011 by mitchem
wkennerley Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Thanks Mitchem Have you got any photos showing the props of the Air Rhodesia DC-3 (or are they C-47s as they have the large loading doors?) - I can't make up my mind what colour they are, they look grey/silver to me Cheers Wayne
mitchem Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Thanks MitchemHave you got any photos showing the props of the Air Rhodesia DC-3 (or are they C-47s as they have the large loading doors?) - I can't make up my mind what colour they are, they look grey/silver to me Cheers Wayne I'm afraid I don't have any photos, but I'd go with the grey / silver. Some photos available on the Internet : Santa Claus and a few on Rob Norton's site : Robin Norton No pressure, but I'm counting on you getting it right as I have a 1/72 DC-3 in the loft waiting to come downstairs. mike Edited September 4, 2011 by mitchem
wkennerley Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Ah no pressure then!! I am not looking forward to trying to get the white right - I have bought some appliance white to trial Wayne
wkennerley Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 No pics but primer done and coat of alclad black base, needs some polishing once it has had a day or two to set Wayne
wkennerley Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Damn I have just noticed that the aircraft registration is in white!! Decals are not - I will have to find some white letter decals somewhere for them. Any ideas anyone? Thanks Wayne
rowmk9 Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Hi Wayne, glad to see another Dak on the go. hmmm not too sure about where to find 1/144th scale white letter I'm afraid but I hope you overcome the issue
wkennerley Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 (edited) Appliance white top and alclad polished aluminium u/s and wings done - waiting for white to dry before taking pic - Still not found white letters this may be difficult to finish - I emailed twosix decals earlier this week, to see if they can scale their 1/72 declas to 1/144 but no reply as yet Wayne Edited September 9, 2011 by wkennerley
keefr22 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Both Modelart & Modeldecal do generic sheets of white lettering. They state they are 1/72, but can obviously be used on other scales depending on the size of the aircraft. There may be something you can use on these? ; http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MAGEN005 (the black lettering sheet shows the size & styles better - http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MAGEN004 ) http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MD048B HTH Keef
wkennerley Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Thanks Keef I will have a look at them Wayne
wkennerley Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Finally some photos, the paint has run a bit so needs some tidying up, also some pulled off when I removed the tape Wayne
mitchem Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Looking good - well impressed with the paintwork. I can see I'm going to struggle to hold out on the 1/72 one for the Airliner GB. mike
keefr22 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 That's looking nice - I like the metal work! And a 72nd one Mike - can't wait to see that....!!! K
rowmk9 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 It does look nice doesn't it? Beautiful finish with the bare metal
wkennerley Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Woo hoo my white decal letters have arrived, so on to decalling this afternoon Wayne
wkennerley Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 Right all done, there are a few inaccuracies but I am happy with it. Wayne
rowmk9 Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Looks beautiful, it really does. I dont think many (if any) will spot the inaccuracies. Top work Wayne!
AndyC Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Wayne, that is a beauty...inaccuracies? All I see is a great model - fantastic job in a great scheme Andy
wkennerley Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Thanks for the kind words guys - Main inaccuracy is that I believe the aircraft should be a C-47 (big loading doors) not a DC-3. Wayne
mitchem Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Damn it Wayne ! That's turned out really well - well enough for me to go into the loft and fetch mine down. Must resist....must resist.....
Speckled Jim Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 That looks positivley Fab Wayne... love the polished metal! And meh who notices a slight differentiation on a door! And Mitch you can always do one in 1:72 here and.... I am sure you could do something else for the airliner GB next year! Resistance is futile! James
Kev1n Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I think that looks gorgeous - the c/s seems to suit the Dk quite well (btw - do you want the Pan Am decals that came with the kit?
