It's been nearly 12 months since I started a jet. For some reasons my jet builds seem to take quite a while and I don't expect this will be any different. :(

Anyway here is the obligatory references and bits shots.

Cant have enough phantoms!

Man thats a lot of aftermarket, maybe the reson it slows up the build. Horses for courses though. Good luck.

I do have a question regarding the pylons. Would the USN ones be close enough for the FGR2?

And yes Neil that book does have some handy hints :-)

Been working on the Aires Resin cockpit over the past few weeks. The pit has been dry fitted (photos to come). I had a remove a bit of material from the tub and the internals of the fuselage parts. All in all it wasn't as bad as I'd heard.

Finished painting the tub parts which was quite enjoyable Pretty much done except for the various knobs and levers which I'll fit when I get it in the actual kit.

The seats took 6 hours or so to stick all the PE on. That wasn't enjoyable at all. I much prefer resin seats with resin belts etc.

That pit and those seats are absolutely stunning :hypnotised: I'll be watching this one closely, can't get enough of Brit 'Tooms! Excellent start mate

I actually disagree on this, i have it and it has made me spent LOTS of money on Phantoms :shithappens: Hate to think what the 1/32 scale F4J UK has cost to now! :speak_cool:

I wish I had the patience for all that aftermarket.. I'll be watching with interest - looking really good so far!

I'm building a 17 Squadron FGR 2 at the moment, and the pylons were the same as the US Navy ones. If you are building your model as one of the later air defence Phantoms with sidewinders then the kit pylons should be OK.

The earlier strike/attack birds had the same pylon, but with what was called a multiple weapons adaptor fitted to enable them to carry practice bomb carriers and triple ejector racks with 68mm rocket pods, which I think you have in your "Stash" of accessories. HTH.

I'm a bit confused now :)

It will most likely be a grey jet with a full air defence load of 4 X AIM 9 and 4 X Skyflash(or should I use AIM 7's?) and a centreline gun pod. I'd like to use the true details pylons as they look quite nice, much more so than the kit ones. I'll have to take a good look and see what differences, apart of detail they have from the kit ones.

EDIT: Found some trheads at ARC that answered my questions For anyone else intersted

Finished the seats. I'd estimate I spent about 12 hours on these. Still I'm reasonably happy with the outcome.I did a fair bit of this under my magnifying light, which my wife bought me for my birthday last year (or was it year before).

I've put the bottle cap in to give a sense of scale (now you know what beer I drink 8-) ).

I need to finish the corsair now so this will be going onto the back burner for a few weeks.

Love the seats, very nice

What is the plan for the final pose of the aircraft?

Thanks. I plan to do a full air to air loadout. 4 Aim9L, and 4 Skyflash with 2 tanks and Centreline gun pod.

Dry fitted the cockpit. Pretty happy with the fit. Lost the bloody pilots stick in the process though so I've had to use the kit one. :shithappens:

Would button up the fuselage but I need to figure out the Aires Exhausts. I'm coming to solution that they are unusable as they are way to small in diameter.

Very nice work so far! You got lots of nice goodies to go with this build for sure!

Can anyone tell me, can I build an FGR2 out of the FG1 kit I have in the stash? Are there any major differences?

The easy answer is no, the FG1 has slotted tailplanes, the FGR2 doesn't, there are other bits different, but the tailplanes are the main visible one, there are others in the cockpit, nose gear door lights etc.

Back on track

NICE BUILD SO FAR Calam

Seems pretty quiet around here at the moment :) Progress has been slow as I've been working on another project. But I spent 5 hours on Sunday cleaning up seem lines on 8 missiles

Then I had to converting some AIM-7's (from the Hasegawa F-15C kit) to Sky Flash. I removed the AIM-7 conduit and added the Sky flash conduit using evergreen. The best picture I had of a Sky Flash were in the Aeroguide book. The conduit on the Sky Flash seemed to have 2 configurations so I just copied what I saw in the book. Now I just need to determine colours.

Also detailed up some AIM-9L's (from the Revell F-15E kit). I had 2 Hasegawa ones which were the best AIM-9L's I had. Unfortunately I didn't have 4 but considering that most of missile with the average detail (the rollerons on the rear fins) is going to be hidden by the Fuselage I decided to use these

F-4-FGR2-21.jpg

I also drilled out the missile exhausts and evened up the edges with a sharp blade. Once I was happy I smoothed out the internals with some Tamiya Extra Thin.

Sorry little late to this one!

The pit looks fantastic, how do you get such neat painting on all the buttons? Even with my smallest brush I seem to spread it on like I'm painting the wall!!

Sold? I think you should have bought more! ;)

the work on those sparklers is awesome mate, as is the paint work on the seats.

modelling at a level people strive to reach, myself included.

Great work so far.

Thanks Phil.

As for the painting I just go slow and use a small-ish brush with a nice point and a I magni-light. I was going to buy one of the omni visors that you wear as I reckon they would be better than the Magni-light , but as my wife bought as a present I thought better of it
