My build will be R6626 (XTY) Flown by Flt Off. 'Ras' Berry of 603 Squadron at RAF Hornchurch 31st August 1940.

On the 31st of August 1940 Flt. Off. 'Ras' Berry took off from RAF Hornchurch at just before 18:00 to intercept an incoming raid. The pilots of 603 Squadron intercepted the Messerschmitt escorts of I/JG3 over South London. In a confused, running dogfight Flt. Off.Berry caught and shot down the Messerscmitt Bf109 flown by Oblt. Helmut Rau at 18:45. The Messerscmitt crash landed on the beach at Shoeburyness where the pilot was taken prisoner unhurt.

Didn't take too many pics during construction, I'm sure everyone has seen this kit built before. If fact I've built one before, this time you will see I'm painting the pilot and I've cut and reset the elevators! More on this later.

No pics of the actual construction again but a fair amount of progress. Whist assemblies were glueing I knocked up a base for displaying this one in flight.

Here is a mock up of how it should look when finished.

I will be using another propblur and the U/C will be show in a half retracted position as if the aircraft had just taken off.

Thats coming on nicely Mish, those tamiya kits really go together quickly. I love the idea with the base too.

Looking good Mish, I'm planning on doing something similar with my Hurricane, just taking off from a grass airstrip.

Looking good so far Mish.

I like seeing models of aircraft in flying configuration. It's something that has fallen by the wayside in recent times. What did you make your base out of?

One thing to bear in mind is that I seem to remember one leg on a spitfire comes up at a faster rate to the other.

It might be worth checking out if you plan to do the undercarriage partially retracted.

Looking good Mish, love how the preshading gives some lovely depth to the panel lines on the Spits belly.
