Dear All,

I am eagerly awaiting the release of this kit, don't know if any one else is.......?

News, it is due for release in February of 2010, so Olga tells me from Roden.

Guess what also found the AU-23A Peacemaker, lined up for future release as well.

http://www.modelimex.com/ShowProduct.aspx?...;CategoryID=267

Roden show the same picture for PC6 Turbo Porter,

http://www.rodenplant.com/HTML/framemodels1.htm

So maybe the kit will do both..?

PC6 RAAF,

Looking forward to this, got two on order.

If that's the same resin kit I had, the back end of the fuselage is several mm's narrower than the front end it attaches to. You'd have to make a cut top and bottom and insert a V shaped piece of styrene to widen it out to fit. I sold mine off years ago.

Looking at the various links, and the shot of the sprues, it looks like Roden are producing two separate kits of the PC6 airframe.

One a model of the PC6 in Australian colours, and a kit of the AU23 Peacemaker.

Both the same basic airframe, but different power plants! The AU23 has a slightly bigger nose with a noise reducing exhaust, some of which remain in service to this day in Thailand. Carrying a 'Shark mouth' marking, which is why I guess they are making the model. To appeal to the far east modeller.

Have photos of them if interested.

Personally I hope to do an Australian aircraft of 161 Recce Flt in Vietnam and a British Antarctica Survey aircraft.

Dear All,

Now that Roden have released the AU23 Peacemaker,

http://www.roden.eu/HTML/439.htm

and PC-6/H2 Turbo Porter,

http://www.roden.eu/HTML/440.htm

Any one still want to do an Astazou/PT6 engined PC6......? IE, not the Fairchild Industries version.....?

Resin conversion should be appearing hopefully soon, in limited numbers, in Australia.

I already have two Roden kits, and have ordered two conversions, any one else interested....?

To not overload my contact, and as they are not on his web site yet, and the price is unknown at this time...

If interested, email me,

[email protected]

...and I will try to pass on requests and process acquisition of these when they become available....

Dear All,

Just got two sets of PC6 conversion, to Roden AU23 kit today, from Australia...

Not mainstream manufacturer, but adequate for my needs, photos to follow.

Which kit would I need to do the version used by Austria? I always liked that simple, OD scheme with the bright red and white cocardes.

Don,

If you want to do a 1/48th PC 6 of Austrian Armed Forces, you have only one model, the Roden PC 6/AU23A,

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/viet/pre...s/roden/439.htm

However this has the incorrect engine, and nose shape, for the Austrian aircraft, there were quite a few different versions, but the engine shape is the main external difference.

Austria PC 6,

I did not know they did this,

Loads of PC 6 photos,

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.sear...inct_entry=true

Good PC 6 web site,

http://www.pc-6.com/

Ooh, don't get to see many aircraft do that,

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Fly-High-Ic...0c35dc93a0cd953

I am going to be doing the British Antarctic Survey aircraft, http://www.pc-6.com/history/619.htm, and a Vietnam era, Australian PC 6 used as a FAC aircraft of 161 Recce Flight. http://www.161recceflt.org.au/PhotoGallery/photo_gallery.htm

However If I was really brave.... I would be tempted by this...

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Switzerland...172b574a8e72cc5

Wouldn't that look nice between a Patrouille Swiss Hunter and F5.......!

However it all requires changes to the Roden model.

The conversion set's I received yesterday from Australia, allow you to do this. Now these are not made by a mainstream manufacturer, so are of a basic standard, but are the only conversion to the Roden kit that I know of, and are only being produced in small numbers. I am told the first batch has sold out but their should hopefully be another batch.

What do you get..?

Well two A4 sheets of instructions and photos.

scan0004-1.jpg

Like most resin conversions, you get a few different resin blocks, they are a little basic, with some engraving, and a little flash that should clean up relatively easily. There is the odd bubble, but should by my reckoning be easily filled.

There are a few particularly Australian parts, the conversion allows you to model a contemporary aircraft, that is carrying parachute bundle's, as in the photos in the instructions.

DSCF1246.jpg

The main part I am interested in is the nose/engine conversion, and this seems to be quite accurately cast, although the photo does not quite do it justice....

DSCF1247.jpg

After saying all that, the conversion set has no decals, these are being worked on separately and may appear later on in the year.

For any one interested in modelling this, the far more common version of the PC 6, rather than the Roden model. Well this is the only way forward at the moment, Roden show no sign of making this version, although the kit allows for this, it just needs another sprue with the Astazou engine to be made.

The conversion is made by Hamilton Hobbies, you will not find them on the internet, but could try emailing Roy at his web site, http://www.southernskymodels.com.au/

But be quick, there are not many of these conversions around......

I hope this helps any one interested in modelling the PC 6, I know only too well how difficult it is at times to find 'little known' subjects and models....

Hence me posting this.

I for one am looking forward to using this conversion, and am quite looking forward to seeing an 'International Orange' painted PC 6 in BAS scheme.

Thanks, Colin and Ryan. Lots of good stuff there. Colin, I think that review is worthy of it's own thread. :ike:

Colin,

Here are a couple of WIP photo of the Roden Porter with the Hamilton Hobbies Conversion.

Cheers

Ryan,

WOW, that looks good............! What a lovely colour scheme, glad I'm not the only one enjoying the PC6.....

The green scheme with white ailerons, what is that going to be...? Just asking because I notice the Australian (Vietnam) PC6's had white flaps and elevators...?

Hi Colin ,

i'm a bit disapointed when I look at the front end part...it must be conical like on the real thing, not cylindrical as the one you are showing, and by the way they did the same error as was the part from the CMK Professionnal model...

pilnosebadCMK4.jpg

and now with the new injected Roden model incoming, cross fingers...

Cheers

RAF,

Tell me about it.....!

I bought two, and two conversion sets, from Australia.... Cost? £100

One of these,

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ROD440

and one of these,

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ROD439

Only too learn Roden are eventually producing the PC6, I wanted originally, and I emailed 'Olga' at Roden about it a year ago, too be told the AU23/PC6/H2.........was all they were producing.

Not a totally happy bunny........!

Looking forward to eventually getting two Astazou engined Roden PC6's....... Fingers crossed....!!!!!

Any one interested in the AU23 and PC6/H2 kits I have..........? Will drastically reduce prices....
