Notdoneyet Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Here's the Spitfire PRXI that I have just finished for the Vacform GB. It is the first vacform that I've completed and only the second I've attempted. I used the excellent Falcon Vacform fuselage married to wings and tailplane from the Airfix MKIX. The cockpit innards came courtesy of the superb Aires MkIX cockpit set and the (ex Tamiya Mosquito) cameras from the spares box (not that you can see them without a torch). Build thread is here for those of you interested in all the gory details. Thanks for looking and any comments/critique you may have. Ian

Miggers Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Dunno what it is,I'm an FAA modeller normally, but I'm really begining to get a bit of a thing for PR Spits(must be the Airfix PR.XIX I'm building). Really nice Ian. Nowt wrong with a bit of vac-form black art is there. Mark
Doug Rogers Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Nice job Ian, that's come out really nice.
Mike Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Nice work Ian... scary that you're only completed build number 2, eh? Those others had better get a move on, or we'l clear up on the presents!!
bigbadbadge Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Fantastic work dude, lovely looking spit. All the best Chris
Jon Kunac-Tabinor Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 (edited) Ian - that's looking fantastic - the camera angles on the pics really capture the look of a big merlin Spit, and the PR scheme always makes the Spit look like a real star too. I've followed your build thread, lurkingly:) and this has turned out brilliantly. If I was to say one thing, then it would be about the wear and tear on the wing fairings. As the AEF stripes were applied over the PRU blue camo - wouldnt it be more likely that the wear and tear would reveal some PRU blue as well as scuffed metal? Sorry - its a pedantic thought, 'cus I love the build. Just thinking how you could add that little soupçon of extraness!! Top notch though mate. Watch out for a run on falcon vac conversions!! best regards Jonners Edit - I just looked with better eyes! - and you have done that. My apologies. Its subtle so i didnt spot at first. Terrific!!. if you mail me a hat I'll eat it. Jonners Edited September 5, 2009 by Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Notdoneyet Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 Many thanks for all the positive comments, they are most appreciated. Nice work Ian... scary that you're only completed build number 2, eh? Those others had better get a move on, or we'l clear up on the presents!! Mike, as the GB moderators are usually excluded from the prizes I'll be clearing up on the presents Cheers, Ian

brooksy Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Beautiful work as always Ian. She looks gorgeous mate Regards Andy
Spazman Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Thing of beauty Ian!!! Easily my favourite paint scheme on a Spitfire!! Look forward to seeing more or your builds! Ted
tbell Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Love it! The PR.XI has always been my favourite Spit. Something about the clean wing and overall PRU blue that just oozes grace and speed. Not to threadjack, but I did the exact same scheme on mine (Falcon/Tamiya/Otaki): I notice that your windscreen has the correct flat front. Was that provided with the Falcon conversion? The one I had was the incorrect rounded style (although correct for the PR.XIX), and I had to vacuform my own. Cheers, Tony
