Finished this today - though it's not as finished as I would like. The decals have done something really weird with the colours changing on the roundels as they were fitted. I am not a happy bunny with that so I haven't given the model a final flat coat, or fitted the rudder cables in the hope that I can change the decals later.

If anyone has some spare decals for a DH2 that I can have, please let me know as I would like to finish this properly, or if anyone knows the correct colours for the roundels on a WWI aircraft so I can touch them up.

Anyway this was built OOB, with a couple of additions, first a scratch built wicker seat, that is hardly visible and bob's buckles and rigging elastic. In addition the booms were replaced with brass rod as the kit parts broke when I dropped it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this as a change, with the exceptions of 2 moments, 1st when I dropped it and second when the decals decided to discolour.

For those interested the build thread is here

Enough waffle, on with the pics.

The obligatory B&W shot for a WWI aircraft

And to give an indication of the size of the aircraft, hitching a lift with another single engine fighter, albeit a bit more modern.

Lovely, lovely work Peter.

What a shame about the roundel discolouration. They look very heavily weathered from here :coolio:

Thats a beauty, I can see what you mean about the decals though, still looks got though.

Shame about the decals, as has already been said... any idea why it happened? :hmmm:

No idea what happend with the decals - the colour shifted as they were put in position, but before any of the Mr Mark Softener. They behaved themselves flawlessly apart from the colour shift. All I can think is that the inks weren't fixed properly, but i'm at a bit of a loss.

I have dropped Eduard an email to see if they know of a problem.

I hope Eduard can sort you out with some replacement decals as they're spoiling an otherwise excellent model. In all the years I've been modelling (well over 40) I've never come across anything like this problem before. Eduard deals are usually some of the best around. Still the work you have done is excellent.

It really is a lovely little kit, great work.

I know how you feel when a build is let down by almost the last thing you put on it as in the decals on my Merlin.

Its so frustrating!

Regardless of that a very nice build.

Oh now that is a real bummer when things go wrong at the last step after all the hard work you have put in, shouldnt be to much of a problem getting replacments i would have thought.

One thing i did notice in picture no3 it seems the tail looks as tho its not stright from head on ? have you noticed this ? :undecided:

Yes the tail is about 4 degrees off, it's caused because while the epoxy was setting one of the replacement brass booms slipped slightly so it's about 0.3mm proud, which knocks the tail off. It's not a big problem, as it's only really visible from directly in front or behind.

Just had a response from Eduard, and they are sending me a new decal sheet :D , so once they arrive I will replace the decals, add the rudder rigging and post some more photos.
