gcn Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Boy is this thing small, more like 1/72, my eyes hurt just looking at it. Good thing is i'd imagine I'll have this finished by the end of the Easter break (famous last words)
AnonymousFO98 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hi Gcn yeah is tiny- but very cute- another good thing/bad thing is that you can have lots and not take up too much display shelf space good luck with the project
gcn Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 The instructions use Mr Color references which is rather useful. They call for C136 which is a Russian Green does anyone have an idea about what an equivalent maybe in Tamiya or Gunze acrylics, failing that anything
gcn Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Got a head of steam on this one despite my concerns over the colours. I thought the struts in the cockpit were quite narrow and wouldn't show any definition with a wash so I primed with Alclad grey primer and then masked the struts with Tamiya tape. I then preshaded with some nicely thinned XF1, removed the tape and finally over sprayed with XF12 IJN Grey which softened the overspray, my attempt at sprucing up the seat in evidence in the background The cockpit has been sprayed with Interior Green that has been greened up a touch but I'm not convinced of the colour. gcn Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Right cockpit assembled and painted. I ended up with Vallejo Interior Green for my green. Chipping with silver paint and a wash with W&N Burnt Umber. Added straps on the pedals and a bit of plastic card for where the belt fastens to the seat. The belts are not authentic but thats too bad. I've since tidied up the wash on the belts and seat. Interior bits n pieces hand painted and washed. I will drop the door just to let some light in because without its blacker than a coal miners black bits. I'm not sure about taking out the floor as I could do more damage than good, especially as its all assembled. Hopefully by the end of today I can have the fuselage together and the flaps dropped on the tail.
Jon Kunac-Tabinor Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hola fellow Moscaritto!! Nice start - like the idea for adding emphasis to the cockpit structure. My refs show a light grey/ blue for the cockpit colour ( and I freely admit I havent read eduards calour call outs too!) with green details. Any reason you've gone your way/ I ask as I'm about to paint my pit ( ooh err). nice detail painting too. Viva la Republica! Jonners
gcn Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Hi jonners just found your message as I was about to post an update. The Mr color sheets show C035 as IJN Grey this was cross referenced to Tamiyas IJN Grey which is XF12, which does have a greeny hue about it. TBH the whole Russian colour thing is a nightmare for me and as the colour call outs in the kit are all Mr color so I grasped as whatever looked right. Pictures are on the crap side but the light was fading. Green is WEM All Green which looks spot on to me. I'm not normally an eneamel user but this was the only game in town. Sprayed beautifully thinned with lacquer thinners and touch dry very quickly. Underside is a Tamiya concoction lifted from another site 85% XF23, 15% XF2, 5% XF8. I'd painted this just before my delivery from WEM which also included the blue which does look more brilliant than my mix. Red was again Tamiya all sub assemblies are painted. Exhausts need weathering with Tamiya powders, Wheels need assembling, as do rear elevators and then its gloss time in preparation for the 4 decals
Jon Kunac-Tabinor Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Ha, we will clear the skies of the Falangist aggressors!! Looking good GCN! take you point about the interior colour and I like the painting too! love the subtle shading on the fabric areas. Just 1 thing if I may - you look as though you've weathered the prop hub as though the thing in the middle is a cannon barrel. Its not - its the locating chuck point for the Hucks starter mechanism. It may just be the way the pics have come out - so please tell me if I've assumed this Still painting my interior! Cheers Jonners

AnonymousFO98 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 sad to say i missed that one Jonners. will keep an eye out for the DVD Did hear the soundtrack on "Sorry I haven't a Clue"
gcn Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 minor update exhausts inserted. Its only when the kit comes with spares that I don't lose any of the feckers a bit of touching up, undercarriage on, flaps on and several coats of Future as you can see i've hacked out the access door but I hadn't noticed that the decals will be under it in the open position. You should be able to make out whats next after this ones finished. The tail is all painted up but boy does that Humbrol gloss take some time to dry.
AnonymousFO98 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 You should be able to make out whats next after this ones finished "something" Air Force? can't quite make out what is on the lid looking really good gcn
gcn Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 I'm tempted to call it a day. I'll check for some photos online to see what weathering could be done. when i grow up i want to be one of these an enjoyable and relatively quick build for me, I enjoyed it far more than the two Hellcats i've just done but I think that was a case of Hellcat overload as I did them together. next on the list is a P-38 for the D-Day GB and then back to an Emil for this one. I'll post some better photos for the gallery later
