Redboost Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Ok gents, time to start my first contribution! I would like to build this kit in the Nationalists marking. The kit contains only the Republican options, so it is up to me to make own decals or paint masks. At the beginning, here is the overview of the box content, the machine I intend to built and the draft of the masks done in Corel I 'll be cutting on a plotter. Edited April 7, 2009 by Redboost
AnonymousFO98 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Looks a lot meaner in those colours Libor! this is going to be good!
Stebos Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I do like that scheme. Those colours work well together.
Redboost Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 So, just to show some little progress on my project, you can see draft of the decals made by a club fellow, now we're tuning the sizes and shape of the fuselage numbers.
blimp Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 WHO IS HE ? - i want him / her / it to have my babies ! superb . - i can tell it's gonna be a cracker libor . lovely stuff .
Redboost Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Finally, some building progress... I spent about half an hour scratchbuilding the new steering wheels, some control boxes, cabin floor (I'm not going to fit the seats so I don't want to have those stubs there) and drilling the instrument panel dials, but I doubt if anything would be visible once the canopy is on. I painted the interior in Red Brown according to preserved example, although the color could be also natural metal or Light Grey.
wyverns4 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Very nice, and a great choice of markings! Christian the Married
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 very nice work Libor you have made me feel guilty about not scratching any details decided not much will be seen but it's nice to know it is there! i'm still thinking of making some representation for the bomb rack having built the gunners station a vertical rack seems unlikely
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Hi Libor having made a bit of progress on mine was checking the fuselage fit and realised that the cockpit sides are very clear to see you did the right thing adding extra detailing there
Redboost Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Hi walrus! Thanks, maybe I should add even more stuff in I'll post further progress over the weekend. Recently I jammed at the wing to fuselage joint. This will need tons of filler, seems to have a busy weekend
Iain Ogilvie Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hi Redboost - looking forward to more pix of this one! Very nice work to date... Iain
Redboost Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Yep, doing my best The wheel wells - there are just openings in the wing, so I boxed them in using thin plasticard. Some further details inside the wells will follow later on.
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 that was something i was struggling with Libor! (along with all else ) thanks for the demo
Redboost Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Hi, some further progress - strugling with the poor fitting wing halves. The two-part putty can keep the thick layer without sinking.
Iain Ogilvie Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Good progress! Am sure the wing roots will come out perfectly with the two pack putty... Iain
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 i did a dry fit with mine and there is a gap of 2-3mm along what should be a join thought it might be a one off on the plus side it looks a cracking good kite and am looking forward to seeing the finished article.
Redboost Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) Hi, Finally, the sanding rapsody is over, now I'm fitting the vacform canopy, it's going pretty smoothly. Cheers Libor Edited June 24, 2009 by Redboost
blimp Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Oooh err ! that's a nasty seam alright . good progress though ! a lovely clean design for it's day , the vultee . not one of azur/mpm's better efforts , but i'd forgive 'em - as they do a lot the unusal stuff .
AnonymousFO98 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 the gap is indeed of Grand Canyon proportions! looking great Libor- can't wait to crack on with mine!
Redboost Posted July 4, 2009 Author Posted July 4, 2009 A little progress today, having replaced the wing's strenghtening stripes, adding the landing lights with deflectors... Now onto the masking, priming and riveting. Cheers Libor
AnonymousFO98 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 looking good LIbor Have you added the wing strengthening strip because of losing it at the leading edge when joining the wing halves?
blimp Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 coming on nicely libor good result with that canopy too , very neat . nice touch those 'light blinkers/wing fences' . lovely .
Sgt.Squarehead Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Likewise.....This looks the business, but you clearly had to work for it. Is it me, or are Azur/MPM/Special Hobby et al. a bit like Trumpeter in that they seem to have a distinct 'A-Team' and 'B-Team' amongst their kits (or perhaps their kits designers)? All the best Andy S.
