Mike Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Here's the completed kit that Dan (Dads203) gave me to induct me into the cult genre of Armoured Fighting Vehicles... AFVs, which is short for "tanks" He held my hand through the build, even lending me some of his Mig filters until mine arrived. The kit is a little modified from the box, as you can see in the build thread here if you're interested. Additions since my last post are some lovely turned brass antenna mounts from Vince at Modelsforsale, some carbon fibre antennas from Accurate Armour, various bits of stowage that Dan let me have, and a trimmed down Tamiya Bradley sprocket to represent a spare often carried by vehicles. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, but it had gone on long enough and I wanted it off my workbench, so tonight the stowage was glued on (with no visible means of support), antennas added & a light coat of Xtracrylix matt varnish misted on over everything. Pictures! Next on the Mike Williams Tank Factory list is a Dragon M1 AIM Abrams, which is a spectacular kit with tons of detail. Another kind gift from Dan, allegedly because it had been battle damaged when the instructions caught on fire! 1
AnonymousFO98 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 bu . . .bu . . . but no wings! still looks cool though nice one Mike!
Antoine Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Very, very well done. Everything is there. Sad for the little bit of decal silvering, but that's nearly nothing. Hope we'll see your M1A1 AIM soon. Just check this link, it could help. I got it in my stash, but I don't feel experienced enough to get it started for the moment.
Dads203 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Smashing Job Mike, considering the quailty of the kit or lack of it, you did an amazing job in getting this one done to a high standard. Can't wait to see the M1A1 now. Dan
AnonymousDFB1 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Very nice Mike, I like it an one to be proud of I reckon.
Brian1 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Very nicely done Mike - can't believe it's your first!
Mike Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Very, very well done.Everything is there. Sad for the little bit of decal silvering, but that's nearly nothing. Hope we'll see your M1A1 AIM soon. Just check this link, it could help. Hadn't noticed that... but the decals were weird & I did them when I wasn't feeling too well & was on auto-pilot... c'est la vie! Thanks for the link... just wish my French was better I got it in my stash, but I don't feel experienced enough to get it started for the moment. I've never let lack of experience (or skill) stop me Smashing Job Mike, considering the quailty of the kit or lack of it,you did an amazing job in getting this one done to a high standard. It wouldn't have been anywhere near what it is without your help matey. Manly hug for you tonight
Guest snipersmudge Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 super job mike, it's got that just lumbered up the beach look about it and the stowage really sets it off. top job
Antoine Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Thanks for the link... just wish my French was better No need to understand French, just look at the pics. And if you need some translation, you know how to find me. I've never let lack of experience (or skill) stop me And you're absolutely right. But I always try to think twice before taking on a kit with so many parts.
Mike Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 And if you need some translation, you know how to find me. Bonjour! And you're absolutely right. But I always try to think twice before taking on a kit with so many parts. It's quite perturbing just how many parts are in that kit.. I've been taking it very slowly, as I've only got scans of some pages, because of the instruction fire at Dan's house. I'm starting to get along with it now though & will post up some progress when I can
Deon Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Thats an excellent model! Love the mud..looks v. realistic
Rampage55 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Super build Mike! Excellent job on the mud and overall weathering, very convincing. It's an inspiration to get mine finished off. Cheers, Mark
Antoine Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Bonjour! Good news, your French is improving everyday! I'm sure that one of these days we'll be able to tackle lesson two! It's quite perturbing just how many parts are in that kit.. I've been taking it very slowly, as I've only got scans of some pages, because of the instruction fire at Dan's house. I'm starting to get along with it now though & will post up some progress when I can Well... Anyway, Dragon's instruction sheets are not known to be very clear, and easy to understand.... If I can help there, just tell me, as I've already told you that I've got the kit in my stash. I don't have a scanner, but I can take pics who will be clear enough. Here is missing lynx and armorama reviews. Edited March 27, 2009 by Antoine

Mike Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Very nice Boss.Welcome to the dark side. It's already costing me a fortune in little bits of turned brass & aluminium It's an inspiration to get mine finished off. Go Mark! <- we don't have a cheerleader smiley, sadly

Mike Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Cheers chaps... Dan gave me the first few for nowt, to get me hooked. A bit like drug dealers....
T-Tango Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Great job, you are really on the Dark Side now. How did you get on doing the tracks Mike?
Mike Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Great job, you are really on the Dark Side now. How did you get on doing the tracks Mike? Thanks Pete - they were actually easier than I thought, and took the Tamiya acrylics quite well. The hard part was gluing the top run of tracks to the roadwheels, which took some good quality 5-minute epoxy to achieve
NinjabreadMan Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 It looks great! I was watching Generation Kill the other day, and apart from the ones in there being 'desertised' yours is bang on! I like the look of some of the modern armour about, but I think I like my panzers more A great build indeed!
