I think having found my new found modelling subject (1/144scale) I have gone back to my roots as a Tornado crazy builder, having ordered a shed load od 1/144 tonkas and a few more on the way thanks to cuprar, cheers pal..! I have many many ideas for a future collection...........

So to start the ball rolling here's my first ever 1/144 build, enjoy

A very nice kit, quite surprised by the quality of the kit

Not having done any type of detailing defore on any size model before I thought I'd take the plunge on this one,

Re attaching the panel

Using a strip of plastic off a drinks bottle I bent and glued it in place

Quite impressed at this point... Now I know the guts of this service panel don't look like a Seaking cockpit decal but that's what I used for the detailing

I think 2 panels are enough, I pushed my luck with this one !

Watching with interest. Mines been on the go for too long now, must get it finished. I've been very impressed with the kit.

Good work on opening up the bay, does the door need thinning down to keep it in scale?

Yes I'd say so, by a "lot" But not been so anal about these things, it's not really an issue to me at this stage of my modelling. Im just trying different things and then with progression ill experiment more and more, When I'm into counting rivets that's when I know I'm obsessed with modelling.... ;)

Mark,

Good answer, the 1:144 kits are great for trying new things out on.

What are your plans for the the 9 kits?

All OOB for these 9 then grab about 20 more with AM decal sheets

Hi Mark,

have you considered joining the 1:144 SIG? They display at shows up your way and also have a table at Telford.

There are a couple of Tonka enthusiasts among them and I'm sure they would like to add you to the group.

Mark I have made this as an oob build, it is a great kit and makes a nice little model. Cracking start, look forward to seeing this completed.

Oh my good god.................... What the hell am I playing at.?

Talk about jumping in at the deep end.. I now decided to to do this.. (may not be 100% accurate for some folk but they'll do for me :P )

Remove befor flight tags,!!

Didn't see the hair with naked eye, sorry...

nothing simpler than a 1mm strip of masking tape. painted red and cut down a old brush to 2 single hairs to stripe it.

Intake covers are an little rushed but I was on a roll, time for a lie down I think, my head hurts

e4d1173b8e63748c24991f9ecfb684bf.jpg

used normal kitchen foil pressed and moulded to the intake. trimmed down to required size. and again painted. final result will be glued into place with PVA glue just to hold it

Remove before flight tags in 144th? Yep, crazy.

Seriously though, great work and inspiring to see what can be done in the tiny scale!

Great work, you've succeeded with the RBF tags where I've failed so I may be copying them.

All i did was lay a strip of masking tape on my bench, painted with a slightly thinned down red acryllic till covered, then cut into 1mm strip and folded it over on its self which was quite tricky, then painted the white with a brush i chopped up leaving 2 hairs for the thin stripe, ill paint the stripes on when i have attatched the RBFs to the tonka i think....

Hi Mark,

the two standing pilots, on the left of the dio, are by Preiser.

They should be just right for a pre-flight check dio for your Tonka with the filter covers and remove before flight tags

and they also do an aircrewman, standing in the doorway of the cab on the left

Was that the IPMS 144 SIG?

the members tend not to frequent the forums very much, they're more into chatting at shows and communication by emal.

There's about 30 of us that are in contact by email so, if you pm me your email address, I'll put you in contact with David Hart; Sig Leader

cheers
