DaveJL Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18D Hornet in the markings of VMFA(AW)-224 'Bengals', built for the Close Air Support group build. I used the Wolfpack Designs ATARS conversion and TwoBobs decals. The build thread is here Not perfect by any means but i'm happy with it. Comments/criticisms welcome. Thanks for looking, Dave Edited July 15, 2012 by DaveJL 1

DaveJL Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Another beauty there Dave, how do you manage to churn quality models out so fast? Thanks mate. Was off work all this week so was able to get a few hours a day at it. Wasn't long in coming together! Dave
woody37 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Nice one Dave, must of sent you bonkers applying those decals !!
DaveJL Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Nice one Dave, must of sent you bonkers applying those decals !! Thanks mate. Yes the decals weren't the most pleasant thing to apply, near lost the rag a few times! Dave
Plasticbutcher Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Thats a very attractive and well executed scheme
BrandX Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) Comments/criticisms welcome. Hi Dave, since I seem to get stuck in reverse whenever I attempt any kind of Hornet build, it ill-behoves me to critique such a magnificent piece of work with a conversion element completed in such short order. Just a couple: the tiger stripes look a wee bit dark to me, although that may be a photographic thing; also the D model did not have the three reinforcement 'brackets' at the inside base of the vertical stabs. These are featured erroneously in the kit instructions, but Cs and Ds had re-designed tail attachments and only three small square panels are (barely) visible at the base of the stabs. Otherwise a beaut, and the ATARS conversion looks really ! Edited July 15, 2012 by BrandX
IXGR1 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) Very impacting scheme, you did well to capture it. Edited July 15, 2012 by IXGR1
speedlimit Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Very well made. Just like to point out the tiger stripe on twobobs decal is black. On the real one it is more gunship grey. But overall it's beautiful! Eric
DaveJL Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Thanks for all the comments folks. Wasn't aware of the error with regard to the fin braces but I did read about the decals being too dark. Just one of those things! Dave
Belle Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Beautiful work on your build. I especially like the colors that you used on the tiger stripes. Belle
Dan Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Looks like a real double 'ard b*****d that does! It's an excellent model, one I'd like to try my hand at too some day... and, I'm sure I've said that before about one of your models Dave. Inspired
DaveJL Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks for the kind words chaps. one I'd like to try my hand at too some day... and, I'm sure I've said that before about one of your models Dave. Inspired The decals are quite hard get these days and you'll pay a bit for them! But worth it. Thanks Dan, always nice to inspire a fellow modeller! Dave
BrandX Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The decals are quite hard get these days and you'll pay a bit for them! But worth it. There was a sheet on eBay last year; the seller put a heads-up on Zone-Five. I fell out of the bed pretty early on! I don't know what the winning bid was, and I don't really want to...
Tango 1 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Gorgeous! All the hard work was worth it, cracking build!
