Fifer54 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Here's my entry for the Big Scale GB. I'm building the only 1/32 aircraft in my stash, which is Revell's BAe Hawk T.1A. But I'm not building a Red Arrow, oh no, I'm doing the Spithawk! Here are the obligatory opening pictures. . . BOX SPRUES INSTRUCTIONS and XTRADECAL set. I'm just getting in at the start of this. It may be a while before I post any progress. I've got a trip to Germany to visit family, then my daughter is getting married, SWMBO has a major birthday, etc, etc, so I may not actually start before March. . . See you later!
Iain Ogilvie Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Ace! Welcome aboard! Now - cheeky Q: Have been meaning to order that sheet for one of my Hawks - but only want the ETPS one's. If you're not planning an ETPS bird at some point - I don't suppose you'd be interested in selling half the sheet would you, or swapping for some grey schemes? Told you it was cheeky! Fifer54 Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Ace! Welcome aboard! Now - cheeky Q: Have been meaning to order that sheet for one of my Hawks - but only want the ETPS one's. Iain Sorry, Iain, I'm holding on to those "for future use" . . .
Iain Ogilvie Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 No problem Hope you didn't Mind me asking! Iain
Metallicus Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Looks like a fun build!! Good Luck Cheers Brenden
Fifer54 Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 Any more progress?Iain Oh, yes, I've got progress, Iain! The cockpit was assembled and several other bits. I came to close up the fuselage and- it wouldn't close around the 'pit! Cue much head-scratching and examination of the thing before I realised what was up- I'd only glued the side consoles on the wrong sides of their location "ribs" on the floor! The whole thing was several millimetres too wide for the fuselage! So I've taken it all apart, put the consoles in the right place, and it's ready to go back into the fuselage!
Iain Ogilvie Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Ooops - sorry to hear that mate - hope it all comes back together OK - looking forward to seeing it finished! Iain
Fifer54 Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Well, I finally got the fuselage closed up, but I've had about 3 days filling and sanding to tidy it up, cos I'd made such a mess of the mating surfaces, but it's done now. I got so excited by this, that I totally forgot to take any pictures, although I managed to get one of the wing clamped up to hold it together while the cement cured: The other wing was done in the same way, and now the wings and fuselage have been joined and await the joints tidying up. . .
Tim B Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 nice wing. calm yourself, preferably with drugs then take more pics.
Fifer54 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Right. SWMBO said "Step away from the model, get out the camera and take some shots!" So here they are- That's the gun pack under the fuselage, as supplied in the kit. As you can see, she's in primer (well, satin Light Aircraft Grey anyway!) to cover up the RED plastic. It's a nice kit to build, and she's taking shape. Any tips for the canopy? The MDC is supplied as some decals. I'd like to apply them to the inside surface of the canopy, but I don't think I'm up to that . . .
Fifer54 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Beginning to look a bit like the SpitHawk! I'll hopefully get a bit further at the weekend . . .
Fifer54 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 I'm going to call this finished, if I do any more to it, It'll only make it even worse! It's missing an undercarriage door, the nose probe is broken, the decal MDC just looks wrong, but I have to say, it's a SpitHawk . . . More pix to follow in the gallery.
