cjhm Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I'm in with this one please Will be out of the box apart from decals as the kit ones were never in the box and could get no reply from Pocketbond. Paul J came to the rescue with a set from a Hasegawa kit plus stars from a Revell sheet
Max Headroom Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Looking forward to this build. Just one thing though, if you look at the box art it suggests that there are seven exhausts on each side! How many HP was that Pony toting? Trevor

The original Academy kit DID have 7 exhausts, they re-tooled it to the current version - something to check before you buy 2nd hand! Wez Edited December 1, 2011 by Wez
Paul J Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Thats right. I recall my first Academy kit was this kit with the 7 stubs. Quite amused by this.
phat trev Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 A great little kit, hope to following your build, mine has stalled at completing the cockpit.
cjhm Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 OK, started sticking some bits together for the cockpit, good detail compared to last 1/72 Mustang I did (Matchbox circa 1985 ...)
TonyGol Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Looking good. I have one of these in the stash but will not be using the decals so if you get stuck you can have them. Tony..

cjhm Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) Cockpit painted, couple of coats of Lifecolor interior green followed by detail painting, bit of drybrushing on instrument panel then some Games Workshop\Citadel Gryphonia Sepia wash. Dots of Krystal Klear on instrument faces finished it off Flash makes it appear very stark, colours are a lot warmer and subtler in the flesh Edited December 4, 2011 by cjhm
AnonymousDFB1 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Nice work, you may I want to paint the fuel tank behind the pilots seat matt black rather than interior green. It would make you cockpit area more accurate.
Bertie McBoatface Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 That's really good for a 72 scale kit, loads of detail. You are making a good job of it too, I reckon.
Ian Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Another one off to a great start. Ian - Co-host Britmodeller 2011 P-51 Mustang STGB -
cjhm Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Main assembly going well, wing to fuselage joint on port wing and underneath the wing where the intake joins need a bit of filler though
cjhm Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 Got behind on this one but managed to do some stuff today Primer of Lifecolor Interior Green has been brushed on to highlight any flaws in cleanup, lip of underside intake is main area needing further cleanup Started to prep some other bits ready for paint, tyres and UC doors have prominent ejector pin holes so these have been filled with Mr White Putty. I have left doors as 1 piece until cleanup complete then I will seperate them Decided on markings, will be Boomerang Jnr of 434th Fighter Squadron using the Hasegawa decals, plane is natural metal overall with OD anti glare panel and a red rudder
cjhm Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Started brush painting Citadel Mithril Silver, aided by some Windsor and Newton flow improver
cjhm Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Rudder finished in Citadel Blood Red and Anti Glare Panel in Lifecolor Olive Drab, Tamiya tape used to mask both areas
cjhm Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 Decaling done Mixture of Revell national insignia, Hasegawa for aircraft specific markings and a Microscale sheet for the odd stencil
Bertie McBoatface Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Brush painting a NMF to that standard deserves some recognition. Well done!
