Dave Swindell Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Nah, you tweaked my curiosity to see If I could improve some more. But not as awful as the unmodified Revell ones; I'll hang them on the 737 this evening, John Yep, that looks better than the first attempt, and much better than Revell's. Your first attempt photo's made the intake look much bigger than the Revell one, but seeing this photo it must have been a trick of the camera angle. Dave
bexwh773 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 John, Dave, Thank you so much for taking the time to go through fixing the Revell engines to make them look right Bexy
richellis Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Mods, can we make it sticky? Or have a shorter how-to with pics done for a sticky?
bexwh773 Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Mods, can we make it sticky?Or have a shorter how-to with pics done for a sticky? Bexy P.S: Rich couldnt resist the temptation!!!!
Viking Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Yep, that looks better than the first attempt, and much better than Revell's. Your first attempt photo's made the intake look much bigger than the Revell one, but seeing this photo it must have been a trick of the camera angle.Dave Hi Dave, Yes I think it was the camera, I had it on macofocus to stop it blurring, and it seemed to make the nearer intake look much bigger than the one behind. Which is why on the latest photo I reveresed the positions of the 2 engines. The daimeters are the same as I stuck my plastic ring on the original cowling and then sanded it down to match. Cheers, John
Viking Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 All done now. The engines are on so I'm calling it finished. I'll post some more on 'Ready for Inspection'. Got to try and show the rest of the modeling community that airliners make nice subjects! Heres a couple for now. Cheers, John
RICHW Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi i have come up with a slightly different way of modifying the engines first i found an off cut of plastic PVC tube 3/8" at work i cut a small ring off this with a stanley knife then cut a small bit off as seen in the picture below i then put this upto the revell engine and marked where i had to cut the existing ring thats provided with the revell engine in order for this bit of tube to fit correctly the section marked in black was cut off the piece cut out of the existing ring provided by revell i then glued on the small bit of PVC pipe where i had cut out i made the pipe slightly wider the the revell ring so i could sand it back flush the front of the intake as it looks now after modifcation the modified engine next to the revell engine i need to do this one now and also need to fill the new engine and sand it back Richard
rhusberg Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi John, That's an lovely model ! and thanks for sharing with us the ways to correct the Revell engines. It looks like corrected injectionmoulded engines should be made available by someone, like Braz did with the Carvair fuselage etc. When thinking about how many of those models we all have together, there should surely be a market for it, and they should be cheaper than resin parts. May I ask how you liked the decals as it's the first model I have seen with them beeing used on. Happy modelling, Ruben www.lndecals.com
Viking Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Hi Ruben, Corrected injection moulded engines would be nice, I agree. The decals were beautiful, really good. the instructions are excellent, they decals themselves went on very easily, the colour density is perfect (i.e the white 'Norwegian' logos overe the red) with no colour bleed. The Edvard Grieg picture on the tail is incredible, its just like a photograph. I'd say these are among the very best decals you can get, alomg with Twosix's. Cheers, John
Kev1n Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 All done now. The engines are on so I'm calling it finished. after doing such a stunning job with the rest of the model and then all that work correcting the engines as well.... the join between pylons and wing is very untidy; wouldnt a bit of extra filling and careful sanding fix that? to be really honest, that join spoils the model
richellis Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 and just who do you think you are? Are your models perfect?
Mike Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 after doing such a stunning job with the rest of the model and then all that work correcting the engines as well....the join between pylons and wing is very untidy; wouldnt a bit of extra filling and careful sanding fix that? to be really honest, that join spoils the model Wow Kevin... that comes over as rather arrogant. You might want to edit your post there.
stringbag Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 (edited) Wow Kevin... that comes over as rather arrogant. You might want to edit your post there. Better spend a day and amend some of the others as well whilst you're at it. You're not winning many friends with posts like this one Matey. Chris. Edited August 13, 2011 by stringbag
Viking Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 the join between pylons and wing is very untidy A rough mounting? been a while since I had one of those Cheers, John

Kev1n Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 I did say it was a good model - apart from the join on the pylons. and all I did was offer an honest opinion. No Rich my models arent perfect and I'm happy to get some honest criticism of mine where it's needed - it's how I learn Whats the point in saying something is great when it isnt? If there is something wrong I dont see any problem with saying so, provided it's said in a reasonable way
richellis Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 If there is something wrong I dont see any problem with saying so, provided it's said in a reasonable way The whole point is people are finding you arrogant. As my mum always says, If you dont have anything nice to say.....
Kev1n Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 well I dont mean to be or to sound like I am and I did describe Viking's model as stunning - which it is. Apart from the join of the pylons. If trying to suggest where somebody can make an improvement is upsetting then sorry. I'm just trying to be constructive
richellis Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 people just dont want to hear your arrogant nit picking comments. As I said, maybe if you dont have anything nice to say, keep your fingers off the keys. Its not just this topic that this has happened. As an aside, the critique corner is there for that sort of thing. Should have thought the nudge off a mod would have given you the message?
RICHW Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 done a bit more to the engines today filled the bottom and re scribed the original markings back on heres the nearly finished engine i just need to tak it to work with me tommorow and run the deburrer arround the bottom and respray it Richard
Kev1n Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 after doing such a stunning job with the rest of the model and then all that work correcting the engines as well.... Rich - above is a quote - from me; I said "a stunning job" which it is. Viking's model is by any standards pretty awesome. With one minor reservation - if you call that nitpicking thats your privelage I disagree with you so we'll have to agree to differ I'm not going to argue with you over it, especially in somebody else's topic, if you want to discuss it some more, pm me and I'll happily talk about so we can resolve it between the two of us. Viking - sorry. You did a good job with the model and I do like it, very much as it happens and your engine work is brilliant and a big help to me. I still think a bit more work on the pylons would make it even better so I hope you took my comment as I meant it PMG - got any popcorn left?
