Mike Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Looks good to me Mike. Bloody hell Mish! Have you got a watch on this topic or summit? You're always here quicker than flies round poop!
AnonymousDFB1 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Got nothing better to do today Mike, too damn cold and dark for modelling, so being a boring old cow and using BM for my entertainment
Mike Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Got nothing better to do today Mike, too damn cold and dark for modelling, so being a boring old cow and using BM for my entertainment Nowt wrong with that matey... although may I suggest a 35w daylight simulation bulb from Androv medical to remedy the darkness thing? I've got one, and it's the equivalent of 135w tungsten, mimics daylight, AND is supposed to have the same effect as real sunlight (without the harmful UV), so would help with SAD if anyone suffers
Seamus Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 That's looking great Mike, lovely and filthy One thing I noticed when looking round the one at Yeovilton was a lot of leaked fluid (hydraulic perhaps?), that was more yellow and/or brown in colour. Not sure if that was because it had been sitting doing nada for a long time or whether it would have been similarly stained in operation, but might be worth considering if it's the latter I'm sure there's someone on here more learned than I who can say for sure either way Regardless, it looks cracking
rdxtnt Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Beautiful job Mike! Are you going to put her on a nice base? Would look great on a bit of carrier deck. Gary.
AnonymousFO98 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 so would help with SAD if anyone suffers I'm often told i AM sad Mike- will they help with that? Looks okay to me. I maybe wouldn't have had the topside as dark in the panel lines- though i haven't done a 1/48 FAA EDSG kit yet so it is a bit harder to judge- in 1/72 looking at photos the pics don't show up the topside panel lines so much, so i keep it to a minimum. but that is personal taste rather than criticism and i certainly wouldn't argue with what you have there - except for ownership - i'll argue with you lots to get her for keeps!!! the u/sides are i think well judged- nice work Mike- she is a beauty
dswoofie Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Wow, you're nearly there now... and it's looking rather nice I must say. The weathering looks fine to me... the underside looks particularly nice Streaky! Gret job, keep it up!! You'll at least finish one this year Karl.
bexwh773 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Boss, Im not an expert on the Scimitar, but it looks ruddy marvellous and certainly not OTT. Definately one to be proud of Thanks for sharing Bex
AnonymousER99 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 That looks cracking man!! The weathering looks just perfect. Well done dude
Mike Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 That looks cracking man!! The weathering looks just perfect.Well done dude Thanks Mike Looks okay to me. That could have been down to my photo post-processing though. Gearbay doors are all on now, and I'm just deciding whether to add a mist of Tamiya Smoke to the underside of the drop tanks (inner pylons), as they did get rather dirty in use. After that, a coat of semi-gloss varnish, and unmasking the windscreen. Once the windscreen is unmasked, I have to decide whether to replicate the white caulk lines around the side panes. I've used 0.75mm tape on the front & rear sills of the canopy to great effect (Cammett Micro-tape is cream), as there are quite wide strips in photos, but the lines round the side panes are rather thin. It might be a case of getting hold of some white or cream decal film & cutting some strips... unless the 0.5mm tape looks sensible. I've coated the tape already applied with a bit of Klear to help with adhesion, as it was already peeling off the sharply curved shiny surface of the canopy. It seems to have done the trick
perry Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Beautiful work Mike, didnt think you'd ever finish!
Mike Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Beautiful work Mike, didnt think you'd ever finish! Me either Master making has been cutting into my modelling time significantly since the summer, which is pretty much when I last worked on it. Almost there now, but there's still plenty of opportunity to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!
Guest snipersmudge Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 super job old fruit the weathering looks very good
Mike Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Xtracrylix satin varnish applied, drop tanks affixed, and canopy unmasked. Thank Zod I managed to finish one this year!  Pictures are a bit fuzzy cos I was handholding the camera - I've lost my tripod mount somewhere So I'll put some new pics in the RFI section once I've made the two blade aerials for the spine         Now what? 9
AnonymousDFB1 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Lovely work Mike, and yes I am first in again I like it and don't worry about the photos they look fine. my friend.

bexwh773 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Ferkin 'ell Boss, you've done good there All the P*ss taking aside, its definately been great to watch and worth the wait Thanks for sharing Bex P.S: "Now what?" Perhaps finish the Valiant
OzH Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Mike, that looks the dogs.... Must get onto mine soon..
DamienB Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Superb - absolutely excellent. Only criticism I'd offer is the white in the underwing roundels is brighter than the underside white - mist a bit of smoke over them perhaps?
Seamus Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Absolutely love it What a great build, have thoroughly enjoyed following it
