benskipper Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) The 2nd Battalion King Shropshire Light Infantry landed on Queen Red beach near Hermanville-sur-Mer on “D-Day”, 6th June 1944 as part of 185 Brigade of the 79th Armoured Division. This vehicle was only completed by it manufacturer 10 days prior to enbarkation, so she hasn't collected the necessary field packs and other detritus required when fighting away from the logistical centre of operatoins. The vehicle has been left in a small depression south east the town of Bieville over looking the road to Caen. It's crew have dismounted to carry out a Close Target Recce on the German troops in the area. These are part of the 21 Pz Div supported by elements of 718 Inf Div. The driver has found shelter in a delapidated shed nearby and is keeping a careful watch. Observe and report is the watch word of the day, as the KSLI lost over 100 men on the assault of D-Day, and further losses could prove disasterous should the worst happen. Company commanders are aware of the strength in men and material the Germans posess, and what that could do to them in these early tentative days of the invasion of Festung Europa. NinjabreadMan Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Very, very nice! A labour of love methinks, but its turned out fantastically
Basosz Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 That looks really really nice. All the little details are very good. Looks like a model that you can look at time and time again, and still find new stuff to look at every single time.
daz greenwood Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 That is very nice, and is probably the best Carrier I've seen. Well done!
TonyT Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 when the page opened I couldn't see the base on the first pic as it was off the bottom of the page and thought it was a real one..... says it all......stunning work.
davidelvy Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 when the page opened I couldn't see the base on the first pic as it was off the bottom of the page and thought it was a real one..... Me too. I thought it was a photo showing the inspiration for the build. Very nice.
Stéphane Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Hello, Really nice Carrier, here. Lots of "detail reading" and a spot on weathering. I understood from reading the building thread that there were Hind lows with this kit but indeed, it comes out as a stunner. Cheers Stef (#6)
Fat Albert Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Realistic fella excellent job love the weathering and tarps.
smuts Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 WOW Ben another stunner , like the weathered tracks. Andy.
Ian Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 That looks really really nice. All the little details are very good. Looks like a model that you can look at time and time again, and still find new stuff to look at every single time. Completely agree. Superb little model. Ian
AnonymousDFB1 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Look, how many times must members be told, it's not on to shring real vehicles and then post them as your own builds.....? What it's a model? Nice work, that's a competition winner for sure
Basosz Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Look, how many times must members be told, it's not on to shrink real vehicles and then post them as your own builds.....? "Honey, I shrunk the Universal Carrier" just doesn't have the same ring to it. But I agree. A shrink-ray gun is cheating !
benskipper Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 I'm so BUSTED!! What happened was I had some spare parts left over from an old microwave, some duct tape and half a carb from my old Triumph Trident...next second boom. Joking aside Thanks to you all for your lovely comments, cheques are now in the post.
