Paul A H Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I picked up a copy of Kinetic's new 1:72 scale F-16i Sufa at the Milton Keynes model show in early Feb and started working on it as soon as I got it home. Nearly two months later, here is the finished article. Eight weeks to build a model is quite a long time by my standards, but I said I wanted to slow down a bit this year and I'm pretty happy with the result. The kit is finished completely OOB with the exception of the static dischargers which I replaced with bristles from a toothbrush as the kit ones broke off during construction. Overall it's a really nice kit to build and has only one slight fit issue around the upper/lower fuselage join under the cockpit (solved with big clamps). It comes with a nice range of weapons and pods, which is something I really appreciate in a model. I've even got enough spare ordnance to equip an IDF Phantom at some point in the future. The model is finished entirely in Tamiya acrylics. I used the new Alclad Gloss Kote for the first time on this model too, and found it to be excellent. Panel lines have been washed with Promodeller Dark Dirt and the finish was matted down with Revell Aquacolour Matt Clear heavilly thinned with Tamiya thinner. The kit decals are printed by Cartograf and are excellent. Not so excellent are the duff instructions - the colour/decal placement guide supplied is for the 1:48 scale kit. The decals for the 1:72 scale kit have completely different numbers, so the instructions are next to useless. Thankfully an image of the 1:48 scale decal sheet is provided on the Kinetic website, so a bit of help is available although proper instructions for the 1:72 scale kit wouldn't go amiss. The canopy was also tinted with Klear dyed with Citadel ink, but the effect is probably more subtle than it should be. Overll though a nice kit.
Rob C Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Superb model. Lovely finish on it. Its been said above but it really is!
daz greenwood Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Superb build Paul. I might just have to invest in one of these to kick start my IDF collection.
Paul A H Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Superb build Paul.I might just have to invest in one of these to kick start my IDF collection. Thanks Daz. You could do a lot worse than start with one of these as it comes with a fair amoun of spare ordnance. I'm planning a Phantom to go with it at some point, and perhaps a Kfir too.
coronado Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Too bad it's so expensive in France, if not, I would have already bought one !
Kiwi Boy Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I like big heavy aircraft and the F-16 usually looks a bit weady, but the likes of the SUFA and the D and F models with CFTs (Conformal Fuel Tanks) make the F-16 would make the big bad and the ugly shift out of town I think!! Top Job on that and I would certainly look forward to a Phantom!!
albymoore Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Hi Paul, Sharp looking Sufa! The camouflage especially looks well done. Needless to say I need to add one of these to my stash. Cheers, Alby
thx6667 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I know nothing about F-16s, but I know a well made model and that is a doozy.
