Revells big Typhoon was eagerly awaited - especially after it appeared to be far more accurate in shape and half the price of the Trumpeter kits...

I'm sure I'm not alone in being pleased with the shapes of the Revell mouldings, yet a little disappointed by a lack of finesse in certain areas and the omission of the Inner Weapons Pylons.

Two Mike's have kindly sent me samples of three of their recent sets for the Tiffie to review here and on the 32nd SIG website (I believe more are on the way!).

The sets covered here are: 32005 Eurofighter Typhoon APU Exhaust, 32006 Eurofighter Typhoon Intake Covers and 32007 Eurofighter Typhoon Inner Weapons Pylons.

32005 Eurofighter Typhoon APU Exhaust

Starting with set 32005 we get superbly cast (with amazingly thin edges) APU exhaust - which replaces the completely non-descript area on the Revell mouldings (port side fuselage halves) with a very neat representation of the APU exhaust. A very simple addition - but one that will make quite a bit of difference to the model for minimal work.

Here's what Revell give you:

And here's Two Mike's fix:

The single component is cleanly cast in grey resin and comes with simple - yet clear - photographic instructions to enable the builder to add with minimal fuss. I followed the instructions with only one deviation - to slice off the small plastic bulge on the inside of the fuselage before drilling out. The Revell plastic is nice to work with and with a few minutes work using pin-vise, scalpel, file and some fine wet and dry we had a nice opening for Two Mike's replacement part.

I'll echo the Two Mike's instructions here - test fit the new part often to ensure you don't go overboard with that hole!

As you can see below - looks great in place - and fits perfectly - both on the outside - and on the inside! To avoid damage I'm not going to bond mine in place until I'm just about to add the wings as access is easy until then.

32006 Eurofighter Typhoon Intake Covers

Next set does two jobs. The Revell intakes are not the neatest in the modelling world - and there's a distinct lack of trunking. Not easy to fix - so intake covers are a godsend! Oh - and the second job? Being bright red they add a little more interest to the airframe!

Again - neatly packaged in a resealable plastic display box with very simple instructions that include a nice colour photo of the real deal. What immediately struck me was the colour - cast in a lovely shade of bright red which may not need painting! I'll report further on that when I get to the relevant stage. Castings are really sharp and clean - and include the separate handles in grey resin - I'll let the photo's do the talking:

32007 Eurofighter Typhoon Inner Weapons Pylons

A surprise omission from the Revell kit were the Inner Weapons Pylons and Two Mike's come to the rescue again with a pair of neatly cast and highly accurate pylons. Moulded in grey these include the relevant sway braces and are a simple fit into pre-marked holes in the Revell mouldings. Simples! These parts will also work on the Trumpeter model.

These accessories are very highly recommended (and I say that without bias - if they weren't - I'd tell you!).

Available from Two Mike's Resin at http://www.twomikesresin.com/ the sets retail for:

32005 Eurofighter Typhoon APU Exhaust - $9

32006 Eurofighter Typhoon Intake Covers - $13

32007 Eurofighter Typhoon Inner Weapons Pylons - $15

My thanks to Mike at Two Mike's for supplying these samples for review.

More updates as I progress with my build.

Have fun!

Iain

OK - well after a long delay - I'm off to make a start as I'm feeling inspired at the moment and am developing a 'thing' for RAF grey jets...
