SaintsPhil Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Morning every one! Here's the first of my 2 completed entries from the Phantom GB, the third is still in work The first is a Matchbox FG1 as Blackmike. I bought the matchbox kit for nostalgic reasons, I used to love building the multi colour kits as a kid! After buying it I read some horror stories about it so I tucked it away at the back of the stash!! The GB gave me a reason to dig it out!! Build threads here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71104 I got hold of a aeroclub update set and added the canopy from a Fujimi Phantom. I scratch built FOD covers for the intakes and periscope plus added the very nice fantasy print shop RFB tags Here she is: Thanks for looking Phil
SaintsPhil Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks! I should have said its been finished a week or so and say in the cabinate, hence it's covered in dust!! Phil
Vulcanicity Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Lovely Phantom. I like the little touches like the "remove before flight" tags.
Python66 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Nice job on this black Phantom. Color looks good on her.
Harry Lime Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Cracking job on a poor kit. If you've managed this with the Matchbox kit, I'm expecting great things with the Esci F-4J! Mark.
SaintsPhil Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks guys, they do look good in black! Don't worry Mark the ESCI ones not forgotten! Just waiting for a new AB nozzle to put another Matt coat on her! Phil
Alan Croxford Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Hello Phil, I'm a very new member, not even familiar with the site, certainly not the menu system. First, a confession, I'm not a modeller. I originally entered the site via a google web search on the topic of Valiant ECM installations. There finding John (ex brat), with whom I've had a very enjoyable discussion. Having said I'm not a modeller I do of course enjoy other peoples work and dedication. I do, however, have an association with the F4. During my working career, two jobs over 50 years, I was fortunate enough to be aircrew as a flight test observer . My last flying project was in 1999, in a F4-DII tail No: N426FS, in the States flying out of Mojave, Phelps Collins (Michigan) and El-Centro. Clocking up some 63 sorties in 9 months. The sorties were all low level, combined of course with high level transitions. My test conditions mainly required 250kts and 525kts over the ground, the last two sorties were flown at M1.16 (corrected) and 300ft AGL. All trials flights were conducted over US government ranges and, the more general test area of the Mojave desert. Your excellent model brings back many happy memories, not the colour job, mine was uniform mat grey without any identifiers. You may find the following amusing; the most enjoyable R/T transmission I made, during the phase at El-Centro, was to reply to the Tower, whilst going inverted, " The combined age in this cockpit is 127 years" (true). The tower reply; "Way to go man". Where ever we went we were constantly asked to perform some short display programme, usually obliging if we had enough petrol! Most frequent request was to do 600kts straight down the runway, nearly free flying in the States, especially with an icon of an aircraft. Once again, your model is excellent, keep it up, which I'm sure you will. By the way, I do not have a profile, don't know how to find the information to do it. So, should you wish to get in touch: [email protected] All the best, Alan
SaintsPhil Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Thanks for all the comments guys, Interesting tale Alan, nice to know it bought back memories.
