Shar2
USS Arizona 1/200 With the release of Trumpeters 1/200 scale Arizona it was only a matter of time before White Ensign Models brought out a photo etch set to complete this enormous model. Arriving in the standard WEM packing of a large Jiffy bag containing a brown envelope, inside of which are a pair of large 290mm x 170mm sheets of etch brass wonderment. Consisting of 131 parts in total these sheets don’t appear to have that much on them, but, this is mainly due to the sheer size of the parts when compared with my usual 1/350 scale sets. The relief etched parts are a joy to behold, and, again due to their size they are certainly easier to handle. If your used to 1/350, or smaller scale etch then this set will cause you no problems. The first of the sheets provides all the railings needed for the Arizona and to help, they are tailored to fit specific parts of the ship. The clear instructions show exactly where these parts go, along with some nice written advice on how you should go about it. Also on this sheet are items such as the turret railings, vertical ladders, ships bell brackets, ships and boat nameplates and even interior parts for the Kingfisher floatplanes. The second sheet contains more detail parts for item like the 50 cal machine guns, inclined ladders, ships crane, turret handrails, barbette armour, range clocks and more items for the ships boats. Keel Plate Templates A nice touch is the brass templates for the inner and outer docking keels. These need to be attached to 1mm plasticard from which the keels are to be cut. The instructions describe how these parts are to be made and fitted, since they are not included in Trumpeters kit. Anchor Chain Plates The set that WEM provided also included another, smaller envelope. This contained the anchor chain plates, with nicely detailed etched plating. These will be particularly useful if KA models wooden deck is to be used. Conclusion Yet another fantastic set from White Ensign Models. I can highly recommend to all those lucky enough to have got their hands on this amazing and extremely large kit.
