nick Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) Well, seeing as my last build was such a big fokker, (linky) I fancied a departure that would be very different, quick and easy. so what could be more simple than a bloody big gun on legs. So here we are then: of course it's ended up with some Eduard tin and a decent barrel, no tracks though. so that's pretty close to an out-of-the-box build for me. Oh yeah, and we're going orange this year. Not sure about that though Regards and Happy New Year Nick Edited February 5, 2011 by nick
Stormbringer Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Very nice indeed. I take it that you've used the Accurate Armour turret etc? I have only one minor nitpick and that is the gun travel lock. The 2 legs(?) at the base need shortening a bit as per this pic http://www.military-today.com/artillery/as90.jpg If memory serves me correctly as it is the gun travel lock is meant for the now cancelled 52 calibre Braveheart version of the AS90 HTH Pete Edited January 8, 2011 by Stormbringer

It's just the kit turret (in surfacer) , the only additions are the eduard PE set and a turned barrel Nick Edited January 8, 2011 by nick
Stormbringer Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 No problem Nick glad I could help. You've done a cracking job on that turret, I thought it was a resin aftermarket one hence the question about it being from AA. Pete
David J Ross Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Nice looking build there. If you are interested, I have some photos over on my Fotopic gallery. I deliberately took pictures of the tracks to aid modellers get a good idea of the real thing. Dads203 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Hi Nick I think bronco make a set of tracks for this kit, from memory I think they are around a tenner. Nice start to the kit btw Dan
nick Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Hi NickI think bronco make a set of tracks for this kit, from memory I think they are around a tenner. Nice start to the kit btw Dan Went for the Bronco tracks - so much for the quick build! On the one hand these things are an absolute bargain for, as you say, a tenner. Conversely what a pain! there are of course 2 tracks, then 85 links per track, and 6 components per link, thats 1,020 components by my reckoning, all of which need cleanup etc. I couldn't believe the size of the box these things came in, it's about the same size as a 1/48 aircraft kit, and 8 frames at that size. I reckon there is about 16 hours work assembling them before you start painting. Anyway, they look really good. I'll post some fotos later Nick
nick Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Got around to posting some pictures today, having wasted yesterday fixing the damage the chimps at my local Billy-Backstreet garage did to my car after foolishly letting them try to fit a steering pump )-: Any way here's the piccies This is the double edged- Bargain/boat-load-of-work-to-do tracks I mentioned - see what I mean? Seeing as the quick build, has once again, gone well and truly out of the window, thought I would go for a basket and grille kit as well from our friends in CZ. Bugger to fold though. You can see that I shortened the gun travel lock as well as per Stormbringers suggestion in this shot. Thanks again for the tip. After moaning about the tracks, they are quite nice I must admit Thanks for looking Nick
ferny Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Looking good! those tracks are impresive, well worth the work, look 10 times better than the rubber ones.
mireson Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 great looking model, Batus, or green and black ??? great so far, malc.
sweaty Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Liking this one alot, just picked one up and now eyeing up all the AM you've added to this, it really makes the effort worth it All the best, Jamie
nick Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 great looking model,Batus, or green and black ??? great so far, malc. Thinking green&Black but haven't decided yet Nick
Oddball Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Holy sweet jesus! Well, the end result should be well worth the effort IMHO.
nick Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 I'm sick of tracks now. God knows how many hours I've put in this week, but I've assembled one side. I'll post some fotos tomorrow. I've put tracks together before, but these things are something else, really time consuming. Nick
Murdo Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hells bells! The AS90 is not a small kit but it is dwarfed by that lot. I'll stick to the rubber bands. That would drive me insane!

nick Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Lashed the one finished set of tracks to see how they look Nick
Stormbringer Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Looks like they're well worth the effort. Pete
nick Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Finally finished the second set of tracks and have got some paint on the model now. Also got hold of a set of CMK Modern British Tank crew, so need to open up the hatches. Try and post some fotos tomorrow. Thanks to this site also managed to snaffle the one and only 1/32nd Hawk in Argos in Flint for 18 quid, what a bargain that was. Apart from being very red, it looks great, much better than I would have expected. Nick Edited January 30, 2011 by nick
Andrew Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Hello Nick, Great to hear that you've finished the tracks; full marks for perseverance! They really do look very realistic. This has been such an interesting build so far and I'm keen to see it painted. Cheers, Andrew.
