i give up.... not gonna comment any more - its the usual stunning start - that leather briefcase (or whatever) in the cockpit is a work of art (the rest aint bad either)

Honza, I look at that cockpit and weep. I wish someone would show me how to do that as mine always look like I painted them with a roller!

Hi Honza,

When the F4U-1Ds and FG-1Ds were originally rolled out of the factory, the wheel wells were Interior Green or Yellow Zinc Chromate, depending on the production batch. Either colour seems to be acceptable. Wheel well doors were most likely interior green or YZC on the insides, but GSB is also possible.

Landing gear struts and wheels were aluminium paint. Only if the Corsair survived long enough to under go re-work, were the struts and wheel wells re painted with Gloss Sea Blue. It appears that the aircraft was assembled, and as it neared the end of the production line, they hydraulics were tested, the gear retracted, and the Fuselage, Cowling were sprayed with Gloss and Flat Sea blue at this time. Items like the vertical fin, rudder, flaps, ailerons, and outer wing panels were painted prior to installation on the completed airframe, so just the fuselage remained to be painted.

Neat choice of markings. Haven't seen anybody do USS Wasp yet.

Thanks for posting!!

david

PS- For an in depth discussion on interior colours of WWII USN aircraft, there's an excellent article found in the "props" section at www.aircraftresourcecenter.com.

Awesome work.

I notice you pre-shaded the panel lines, but it looked as if this was completely obscured by the blue paint, but then the panel lines now appear shaded again. Did you post shade them, or did the pre-shading appear again after varnishing?

Cheers,

Cheers,

You are right... preshading effect was demaged by base colors... everything was shaded again with postshading... (base blue + bit of light blue)
