Arniec Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Here's my Junkers Ju 388. It's made from a Revell/Dragon Ju 88 C6 with a conversionset from Heritage aviation. The resin part's of Heritage Aviation were great, the only setback was the vacuumformed cockpitglas. It's to big for the resin front cockpit part. Cheers Arnold Edited August 5, 2010 by Arniec
_H_ Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 That looks great! Rarely see a 388 modelled and even more so in 1/48! How was the conversion kit? Howard
FalkeEins Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 ...excellent work indeed - how did you deal with the canopy problem..?
Arniec Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys, The conversion was not so difficult. You get a new cockpitfront so you can swap these for the original and the engines You have to remove the complete bulge after the engine. But that is no problem because it's at a panelline. After that it's quite forward for the build. The only problem I hade was that the glassing was widder than the cockpit. To solve this problem I glued it to the front with some wood glue and after a day of dryingout I putted some 2 part epoxy glue around it to have a strong bond. Then it was just straight forward with some putty and sanding. If you make a mess of the cockpitglassing then thats no problem. I hade 3 extra spares in the box. (witch I didn't use in the end) The Kit became quit heavy with all the resin on it. But the undercarriage is quite strong and the Ju 388 is stil standing today. Arnold Edited August 9, 2010 by Arniec
ChancerUK Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Lovely work, finish is spot on, not often we see the Luftwaffe's final verion of the 88.
timbo33 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Nicely detailed cockpit - like the cables at the rear of the panel. Nice Job and an unusual subject
Arniec Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 O, I forgot something to tell. I used the wingtips and aillerons from a old Ju 188. The one in resin were OK but I liked the ones in plastic better. Arnold
The wooksta V2.0 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Beautiful. I've always had a liking for the 388 series and I've a few of these conversions tucked away. My only minor criticism is that it's a tad too clean - having seen photos of many Ju 388s, they were filthy and leaked lots of oil. Have you read the Schiffer tome on the Ju 388? Fantastic book.
Arniec Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys, Thanxs for al the kind words. Arnold Edited August 11, 2010 by Arniec
