horia Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Hi, I follow this forum for a long time, and I find it very interesting. Because I have no current models in progress, I thought about contributing with some pictures. The pictures that I am attaching are of planes belonging to the Romanian Royal Air Force. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do, and who knows... perhaps some of them will be the inspiration for some new models/registrations for you. I have a personal collection of about 2000 original photos related to Romanian Air force. If someone whant to see something special, please ask i will be glad to help you. So.. 1 and 2. Test Graham Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I always meant to get another RWD 8, but it's probably too late now. The Fleet 10 is interesting, given the recent kit, but what colour was it in that prewar photo? I've been interested in the Romanian Air Force for some decades now, but have fallen a long way behind any modelling schedule. The one subject that I'd particularly appreciate seeing in new photos would be the early He.111H-3 in their near-unique colour scheme. Especially if you have any showing the design on the upper wings, but I fear that's asking too much. Any views of Russian piston-engined types in Romanian service are very rare in the west. Yaks? Tu.2s?
horia Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) Hi Graham. The picture regardin Russian planes are also rare in Romania. Here are some He-111 picture but I’m afraid that are not what you are looking for. Other Fllet pictures are attached too. Have a nice week! …. …. …. ….. German Me-109 crashed into a Romanian Fleet F 10 from Esc 115. Edited January 11, 2010 by horia
horia Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 The Fleet was painted like this one: http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/Ruman...tF10G_Denes.JPG
Test Graham Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Fleet: not the blue cowling, I think, but I missed the yellow wings. So an overall light grey on the fuselage. He.111H-3: No, these are very interesting and show new details. The rear view shows the pattern of the light grey (RLM 63?) inboard on both sides, which I don't think I had. In the underside view, the leading edges show a change of colour near the tips: I'd assume it was the light grey again but the top view suggests the medium colour. It also shows some round windows at the front of the gondola. These aircraft are supposed to be new H-3s, but don't show the forward gun position claimed to be on Luftwaffe H-3s, and are painted in a patter seen elsewhere only on early Ps. Elsewhere on He.111s, I mean, there was something very similar on Portugese Ju.52s.
horia Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Hi, Graham, during the interwar period the Fleet planes were painted in blue over the main body, and their wings were painted yellow, in accordance to the US style of painting. there were some instances when, after some repairs, this standard modus operandi was changed at the whim of the military schools commanding officers. the light blue gives the impression of a very light grey in the pictures. at the beginning of the war, the yellow and blue colors were dropped, and they switched to dark green. there were also camouflaged exceptions. please see the link. http://www.cartula.ro/forum/Fleet-10G-Azur...20&start=20 I also attach another picture with He-111 from personal collection of dan Antoniu ([email protected]). You can see on the main body a painted storch, this beeing the official badge of Flotila de Bombardament- Brasov
Test Graham Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Thanks for that: so they would appear dark in some films and light in others. I'm not used to seeing the US colour appear quite so light. However, my reference was to the restored aircraft with light grey fuselage and a royal blue cowling. There are some interesting photos in the link, but I do struggle with trying to read Romanian. There's enough French to be tantalisingly approachable, but not quite enough. The latest Heinkel is a later one, one of the H-6s. Note the darker colour on the canopy framing. I haven't seen the badge before. Edited January 12, 2010 by Graham Boak
horia Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 The fuselage is not light grey is light blue. Maybe the link is not concludent. I will look to another picture where the corect blue is more visible! have a nice day!
Test Graham Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 One other question - what were the interior colours of the Romanian Fleets?
horia Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 Hi Graham, sorry for my late replay. Here are some scans from a romanian modeling magazin
horia Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) After the bolsheviks take power in Russia , Ucraina tried to gain independence and established an administration in the north side of the country, the south part being occupied by the Bolsheviks. In this period , Bella Kun has estabilished Ungaria Comunist Republic on a territory formed by north Ungaria and parts of Ucraina. Many peasant join this party and asked for some other territorys. Ucrainian government being pressed for many direction decide to transfer the national treasur to Romania to be kept in safe. In 1919 Romania attack Bella’s republic and destroy it. After this, in many europen country communists start to organized themselves very good, but the guverments of this countrys were respond in force to stop them. Germany intervene and support Ucraina with gold, money and armament to resist to the Bolshevik expansion. One of such transport was captured by Romanian after a giant plane Staaken Zeppelin R XIV crashed landed on Romanian soil. Romanian kept the plane and give to ucrainians the gold, money and armament. After few weeks the political situation of Ucraina goes bad, and the govern take the decision to give al he’s armament to Romania not to be confiscated by the Bolsheviks. The plane was flew from north Romania (Basarabia) to Bucarest by romanian pilots. On the way the plane landed 3 times because was improper refueling. The plane was using a special type o fuel and the romanians did not know this thing. After arrived in Bucarest the plane never flew. Here some photo with this plane in romanian hands: Edited January 21, 2010 by horia
