Hi all - with deep regret I have to say, that having seen the pics of the new BIG Tiffie, it looks like Airfix have made a few shape errors. I can't believe they didn't spot these either, as its pretty obvious.

I've attempted to show these below -as its easier to overlay scetch type drawings than describe.

Those missiles look a bit iffy too.

Jonners,

You've made the schoolboy error of using photos rather than plans. You really need to consider issues of parallax and lens distortion....

Im aware of that mate, but I think, even allowing for this, somethings awry with the shape....

Doubtless the aftermarket boys will have to release some resin correction sets

Actually, the parts for the late version are on sprue Q, marked in the instructions "not for use". So much better for the spare-parts hoarder than Hasegawa's typical way of giving you only what you need for the particular box they chose to put it in this time.

p.s. I think the stripes on the test build also trick the eye a bit...

Hi Bob - I heard that was the case. It looks like Airfix have separate cockpit sides - presumably to allow for the 2 seater too, but again the gap they left seems too short.

Perhaps it wont bee too noticeable under a coat or two of paint?

Nice one LOL!

When I initially saw the article's header, my initial thought (before I actually read the post) given the kit's release date is not too far away now was - "and so it begins........."

Having been amused and bemused at the Whirlwind thread out there, I thought here goes another. This is hilarious, most appreciated and gave me an early Sunday morning laugh. The use of the red pen was subtle and brilliant by the way. Thank you.

If no-one's taken "They totally didn't do a very good job with this one", I'll take that please :)

Now if they had only done a 1/24 Baynes Bat (which is what everyone has been waiting for) rather than just another Typhoon it would have made sense. They really missed the boat on this choice!!!

Even the paint scheme for the test-shots is miles off, they're in fantasy land. I've seen Luft46/Star Wars hybrid builds with a stronger grip on accuracy.

JONNERS! You are a complete and utter GIT! :fight:

Any more of that sort of thing and there'll be burning torches, pitchforks and banishment to Hyperscale

Anyway, everyone can see they've put the canards on the wrong end!

Now ! , you've been warned before about drawing red lines on photographs, this is totally unacceptable behaviour. I for one will wait until I have the plastic in my hands before passing comment.

I seem to recall someone else drawing stuff ontop of photos to "prove" perceptions of inaccuracy. Is Jonners really Gaston Marty in disguise? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yes, I know that was a bit below the belt...but what do you expect given the thread title. :)

Nice one, Jonners! ROTFLMAO!!!

well i have to warn you Andrew, I think you may well be disappointed. I'm sure the modelling mags will give it their "usual" glowing reviews, but I for one arent sure if these shape errors are fixable.

Now before we all get too upset and annoyed with Aunty Airfix - lets look on the positive side, and see whats right:

Real Typhoon - number of horizontal flying surfaces: 4. Kit : 4 score one for Airfix

Real- number of wheels: 3, kit: 3, another winner

Real- crew quantity: 1, kit: 1 its getting better chaps!

Real - canopy in 2 parts, kit - ditto

Vertical fins - real: one, kit: one

Pointy nose - yes on both

single fuselage - yep

You see, theres lots here to praise too

I'm waiting on my mate 'GM' to come back to me too- as he feels the box may be out of true as well, however until he compares it to some old lo-res pics of wood pulp,he's only 98.7% sure.

Oh - it's a plane then? I was hoping for a 1/24 Typhoon Class submarine! (now that really would be something! )

Cheers :bye:
