Mike Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 F7F Tigercat Undercarriage Covers 1:48 Quickboost by Aires The AMT/ERTL Tigercat is quite long in the tooth now (excuse the pun), and is now being reboxed by Italeri, much to the relief of those that have been unable to find one. Its age makes it ripe for updating, and this set of landing gear bay covers does just that. The kit parts are quite detailed, but suffer badly from poorly placed ejector pin marks, which are difficult to remove without damaging the detail around them. The Quickboost items are of course free of sink marks, and have more scale thickness edges, as well as a lot neater presentation. There do appear to be a few rivets missing from the vicinity of one of the sink mark locations, and I'm not 100% certain if this is correct. That's easily rectified with a few Archer rivets of the correct spacing if it bothers you though, and still a lot easier than bringing the kit parts up to scratch. The nose gear bay cover still has the shadow of an ejector pin mark on my sample however, which is a bit of a shame. Overall though, the set represents a time saving and improvement in detail, so is still worth the effort. Conclusion Although this set isn't perfect, it does give you a better set of gear bay covers that require only a little work to make perfect. A handy upgrade to this oldie but goodie.
