Mike Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 F-16 Airbrakes (for Tamiya) 1:48 Eduard Brassin (648039) The F-16’s airbrakes are a bit of a quandary for most builders. It’s possible to portray them open on most kits, but the detail is somewhat lacking. This set adds that missing detail, and even includes a template to ensure that you pose the brakes at the correct angle! Inside the bubble-pack box are four resin airbrake parts, two actuators attached to a stub of the fuselage, and a small sheet of Photo-Etched (PE) metal with extra detail parts. To add the airbrakes, the modeller must remove the kit representations, plus a few millimetres of the housing forward of the join. The actuator parts are then added to the “stump” and the join faired in with your filler of choice. Each petal of the airbrakes has a PE inner skin to further improve the detail, after which they are installed onto the actuator part and their angle checked using the templates included on the PE sheet. Four miniscule PE parts attach to the top attachment points for both airbrakes to complete the job. Conclusion A simple set that does a lot to improve the detail in the airbrake area. It is probably best to install the stub during the main build and then add the brakes themselves later after painting is complete, to avoid breakage during handling.
