Japanese WW2 colours

I going to start on two 1/48th A6M3 Zeros soon and as I'm new to Japanese subjects I thought it best to see what the specialists regard as accurate colours.

Does anybody know of a reputable source where this information can be found? I've looked at J-aircraft and seen lots of paint mixes involving Polyscale, Testors and Floquil paints but none of these brands are available here (UK).

One chap, called Greg Springer, formulated some colours using Tamiya acrylics, but finding them in the various forums has eluded me. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Regards,

Trubbie

PS I don't seem to have much luck spraying Humbrol emanels. The matte colours seem to end up like sandpaper.

I've used WEM's colours on my Raiden and they work just fine - it's been on our display at shows and no one has said the colours are wrong. I used WEM's Mitsubishi Green and Mitsubishi grey-green for the exterior and Mitsubishi Interior green and Aotake for the interior and wheel wells. I used Xtracolour enamel thinners to thin them prior to airbrushing. Click on the link at the bottom and look in examples of completed 1/72 aircraft and you'll see my Raiden there.

thanks

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for your experience with the WEM paints.

I understand that Mr Springer did a article on their accuracy which I shall read carefully. Judging by other comments, WEM are good quality paints and are in general close to original colours.

Many thanks,

Trubbie
