Tamiya 1/6th Harley Davidson FLH Classic

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd take time out to show you my current build - a 1/6th Harley Davidson FLH Classic. My wonderful wife bought me this for Christmas. Todate I have spent about 100 hours on it. The photos shown here are the bulk of the work. Paints used are mainly Alclad 2 (jet exhaust, pale burnt metal, duraluminium, aluminium, and chrome) with some Humbrol and Tamiya thrown in. I've also painted the body work (fenders, fairing, and panniers) in Alclad 2 Prismatic Jade and will post pictures of them later. I need to do some patching in places but it's getting there.

Anyway here's the engine block left

When I get chance I'll take some more photos and post them up.

Bikes are not my thing, but when a modeller says that he can't tell it from the real deal, you know you must be doing something right. Looks like a set from the HD spares catalogue...

Nice one,

Here's a little update on the Harley. I've finished much of the body work and have started to attach it to the bike as well as some of the extra bits around the frame. The bodywork is painted in Alclad's prismatic jade (gold to green).

Anyway here's a few pics.

Here's the front roll bar installed. One lump of metal that adds a far bit of weight to the bike. To the bottom left is the newly added brake pedal.

Lastly a rear shot of the rear fender with the rear bumper and lights added.

Thanks for looking. More pictures to come.

Nice 'Shovelhead', I like the choice of paint colour too, very retro.

After what seemed like an age I have finally managed to get some more work done on the Harley. The work around the engine and gearbox is now complete. The oil tank and battery have been added. The exhausts are installed as is the rear wheel, shock aborbers, panier framework and seat suspension frame.

Here's a few pics of the progress.

Just done a lot more painting and completed the front fork assembly and wheels. I'll get some more pictures together soon.

Thanks for looking.

The Harley is now complete. I wanted to take some photos of the front wheel assemble but didn't manage to find the time. Probably a bit of modellers rush to complete the model. Anyway here is the final set of photos for the completed Harley.

Hi all

Many thanks for the comments, all gratefully received.

The kit has a bit of history for me as I bought one of these kits many years ago as my mum took a shine to it in a model shop. Long story short I bought the kit and made it for her birthday. She was really pleased with it and still has it displayed at home. It's took a few knocks over the years with various moves but has been repaired by my dad. Since making the kit I've always wanted to build one for myself and gave up hope when it became difficult to find.

Last year I managed to find the kit on Models for Sale and my darling wife bought it for me as a Christmas present. I started it in January and I'm really pleased with the end result. I haven't done much modelling in the past few years and it's the first time I've used Alclad.

The kit went together pretty well, some tricky spots and with the gearbox and getting the engine aligned properly but nothing major. The quality is what you'd expect from Tamiya.

I'd build another one but not just yet.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: That is one BEAUTIFUL HOG!!!! Outstanding paint & detail work Kevin!!! Looks like you could just jump on,hit the starter & take off!!!! As an aside the Evo2 engine has more power, but I've allways liked the shovelheads for whatever reason!!!! NICE work!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
