brooksy Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hi Pete, I want one of these aswell. I want to build it up all dirty like the ones in Kandahar. They were really being put through their paces out there but do an amazing job. Utmost respect to the crews I'll be watching your build closely mate. Best of luck Andy
Gary West Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 (edited) Hi Pete,I want one of these aswell. I want to build it up all dirty like the ones in Kandahar. You'll need to upgrade it first to a HC2 Andy. This is an early configuration HC1 matey. Luck Pete - I'll be closely watching this one. Edited May 17, 2008 by Gary West
brooksy Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Yes Gary, lots of research to be done before attempting my Chinook. Don't have any knowledge on these, so will be looking around the internet quite a bit for some info. Looking forward to Petes build a lot Cheers Andy
OzH Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Yep, also got one in the stash, looks like a nice kit, HC1 though so be ware if you want to change it to current HC2, not to difficult I belive... Useful links: Tony Taylors pictures on Helicopter News, these have the early blades so may be of some use. And Alec Revel's walkaround HC2, so some reference for the different antenna layout. Ian of Herretage Aviation does a blade update set of the corrected, later blades. Don't know if they are in his cataloge yet though. Will be watchin this one tooo
bexwh773 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Good luck Pete, always had a soft spot for the Chinook since I had a ride in one at tree top level driver was a nutter & at the ready for this matey Bexy
Paul Bradley Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I'd thoroughly recommend the Eduard cockpit set.
Guest snipersmudge Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 cheers all for the support i'm sure i'll need it!, great links ozh thanks, especially the hc1 site, never knew that early chinooks had "tin blades" which to me look like what you get in the kit pete
Guest snipersmudge Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) Hi all, well I've made a start on the cockpit. the plan is start at the front and work back wards. first pics are of the kit seat and my modified version. the seats supplied with the kit seem to be standard American seats here are the seats after modification, i have to add headrest cushions later from putty, center console after detailing, the kit supplies decals and this is the overhead console with the co-pilots emergency door release added well thats it for now more soon cheers Pete Edited May 18, 2008 by snipersmudge
Guest snipersmudge Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 hi all, well I've added some more detail to the cockpit area namely the hydraulic lines for the pedals and wiring on the back of the instrument panel and helmet jacks on the rear wall. I'm happy with the detail I've added and will not add any more to the area. here are some more pictures next up will be adding some quilting to the cockpit walkway. I'm going to roll out miliput or similar and emboss the pattern onto the thin sheets of putty. more soon stay tuned!!
Ale85 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 i also have this kit in my storage...this will be one of my next project! So i will follow your build! ciao Ale
Guest snipersmudge Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 hi all here is a small update on the build, been a bit slack due to courses and a short holiday. here is the cockpit/cargo painted this is the cockpit bulkhead, i used some metal tape to simulate the quilting and embossed it with a blunt tip from a compass here is the crew access door area. i filled and sanded the kit grill as it was more oval than round and added a nice round etched grill from the spares box. the recess next to it was added as it's missing in the kit. you also may notice some rivet detail. this has been added using a ponce wheel. well thats all for now more soon pete
bexwh773 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Starting to come together nicely there Pete, those wiring looms look the Dogs Danglies Bexy
Guest snipersmudge Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 another update for you all. some pictures of the cargo bay etc before i closed it up more pics to follow of the model tommorow cheers pete
Guest snipersmudge Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 cheers mike, I've now got the fuselage together and boy i wish i had three hands! very tricky to say the least. i also had a fight on my hands to get the canopy glazing in place, lots of sanding and adjustments needed for that job. I can now Gage the size of the model and it's gonna be huge!! god knows where the finished item will go cheers Pete
Guest snipersmudge Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 as promised here is the fusalage all glued togther, the use of three pairs of hands would be useful to say the least!. lots of sanding ensued especially on the underside and the cockpit glazing. i have sprayed the glazing black as that's the internal colour. more soon cheers pete
albymoore Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Wow, impressive work so far! Did you add the soundproofing material to the cargo area interior or did it come that way (I see where you added it to the cockpit bulkhead- very convincing!)? Look forward to seeing some color on it! Cheers, Alby
J35 Draken Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 So far, so good. Keep the rest of the build up to this standard and you'll have one cracking model!
Guest snipersmudge Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 a bit more work on the beast this weekend, I've been busy with the various grills and the engine intake screens. i used some scrap brass mesh to replace the molded kit detail. the engines needed a fair amount of sanding and general fiddling to get a good fit. thats all for now still a long way to go!! cheers Pete
F-32 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Lovely looking build. Always had a soft spot for the Wokka Wokka. Used to work in Basingstoke and so I'd see them all the time flying out of Odiham on low level runs, always very impressive! Looking forward to seeing it finished.
