Well, as the Kfir is nearly finished, I'm starting to plan/research/study my next build, that big MiG beast.

And I may start the build soon.

photo_22.jpg

It looks like a fine kit (Ex-Zvezda) with recessed panels.

Dimensions seems good.

The instruction sheet is very clear.

You get a big decal sheet, full of stencils, and a choice between three aircraft, all Russians, two operational aircraft, and the display export version.

Two plastic sprue for the aircraft.

And two smaller one, for weapons (Six missiles, 4 R-33 and 2 R-40) and tanks.

I'll build the aircraft as Red 22, from the Red banner Aviation Regiment Boris Safonov (The aircraft on the boxart).

I've read this book last year, and I think it'll be very usefull:

During the built, ANY advice, ANY comments will be welcome.

Just try to be constructive.

I know nothing about the kit, but that box-art makes me go all wobbly :)

Don't see many foxhounds/bats, so it will be good to follow this :)

Oh yes, looking forward to this one

Was looking at mine earlier, thinking what a huge aircraft it is. The 1/72 kit would make a pretty sizeable model for your average 1/48 jet it's that big

Is this the tooling that appeared some years ago (early nineties?) along with the Mig-29 and Su-27? It looks familiar, but my sample is buried deep in a box amongst the loft stash. Whatever, I look forward to the build and concur with skii about the box art - a large, framed print would look fabulous.

Revell has a goo dgame going with that one, from where I sit. It looks like a very nice build is in store.

I believe that's the Zvezda tooling reboxed.

Revell did a reboxing of the Tsukuda MiG 31 in '89 (this is the one I have in the stash).

By all accounts the Zvezda/Revell (recent) that we have here is far superior.

Hey Antoine,

I was looking through some builds of this mold of kit on arc and the kit actually represents the prototype mig-31 (the blue one) with different intakes to the production variant.

(near the bottom)

But suppose its not noticible unless your highly into your russian hardwear

Thanks, Will.

I still had to check my book anyway.

I'm willing to do a litlle bit of scratch if needed.

I'll see.

;)

That'll teach me to not pay attention! :raincloud:

New Revell = Zvezda, I have the Zvezda and the plastic is the same. The RoG kit has a better decal sheet, which is why I bought the Begemot sheet, it should build up nicely!

Not at all.

Post your in progress or completed models here. To post here you are acknowledging that your build is open to constructive criticism of your techniques and of course that you are happy to receive help or advice.

3, 2, 1, Let's go!

photo_10.jpg

Let's start with the weapon load.

Many things here, R-33, R-40, tanks...

I like to make rooms on the sprue asap!

photo_13.jpg

Everything is glued.

photo_14.jpg

It's Russian, yes!

But it doesn't have to be so thick!

If I didn't know what to do this evening, now I know: Sanding and thining the whole weapon load!

photo_11.jpg

The pit.

Quite basic, but the seats looks very nice, and so are the decals for the instrument panels.

I'll just have to add small details on the upper part, under the canopy.

photo_12.jpg

And then, the question of the century: What's the exact blue/green for the pit?

I've found my own answer:

Base => pollyscale light blue RLM78

+10% Aeromaster blue RLM24

And another 10% Aeromaster green RLM25.

The whole thing mixed straight in the airbrush bowl (?), drop by drop.

Difficult to see clearly, but what do you think?

(Nota: Words followed by (?) are words that I'm not sure they're right, so please give me a hand)

You're a very naughty Frenchman Antoine! :wicked: You said you weren't going to start anything else til the K'fir was out of the way! Tsk tsk ;)

I am innocent!!!

Anyway, I can't work for the moment on the kfir.

The last decals were applied this morning, and I'll soon give it a coat of klir (Future), and with that, I'll have to wait at least a whole week before I can continue on the weathering.

The pits decals are on.

I think its nice for this scale, no need to get color PE.

Still got to work on the seats and the upper part of the pit.

Hi antoine! at present i'm currently working on the Revell 1/48 MiG-25 and finding the right cockpit colour also proved a tricky prospect. However, i found that Xtracolour do a paint (x629 Blue/green) that works beautifully and is the exact shade for russian cockpits. I think the shade you've used is nice but maybe a little to pale? All the same, nice work! xan't wait to see it when it's finished and hopefully mine should also be finished soon!
