Just reading the Airfix club magazine that popped through the door this morning and noticed that they are announcing a limited edition Sea Vixen in 1:48 for 2009. Looks like the rumours were true...

They have also announced a 1:350 HMS Illustrious.

Someone on HS is saying he's seen something at Telford about an Airfix 1/48 Vulcan. I'll have to see something official from Airfix to believe that!

There was an Aeroclub Vulcan on their stand with a label saying "what if?"

I was told the TSR 2 wont be out until early 2009 now

Having spoken to Jonathan Mock and Trevor Snowdon at the show today, i can say that the Sea Vixen is definitely coming, but the Vulcan is far from certain - the 1/48 example on display at Telford is an Aeroclub example they are using merely to guage interest! :-)

Thanks Darius, and a major wahey for that-was hoping it would be the modern one, though to be fair, I wouldn't have been too disappointed if it wasn't!

I was told by one of the guys on the Airfix stand that the Vulcan was planned for release next year (so that means 2010).

After all the problems in the past I'm really happy to see Airfix on the move again. I grew up building Airfix kits.

Right now I've just started the 1/600 HMS Victorious.

Airfix, live long and prosper!!!

Thanks for that! Makes sense I suppose, but I would also have liked the WWII one - I'll have to make do with the old Heller kit!

The new one is also an interesting vessel, and I'm sure I'll get one.

me too Murdo! how are you getting on with the build?

would have been more interesred in the WW2 Lusty- then could have converted to Victorious before the refit!

But a question for all - if the limited edition for next year is going to be a Sea Vixen, does this mean that the Vickers Valiant is not happening????

Could be either as the recent Airfix 1/72 Wellington is an MPM kit in an Airfix box. Sounds good though, I'll definitely be buying one.

I wonder if Trumpeter is doing the molds hence the origin of The original rumour being IPMS Phillipines...

On HS there was a ref to a DH 110 which was the mfg designation for the Sea Vixen wasn't it, in the same bit mentioning The Sea Fury

And I know that from the Czech Republic that a 1/72 then 1/48 DH110 Sea Vixen is on it's way (Ok I know it's the MKI but at least it's a Vixen in 1/48)

How cool is this? And possibly Trumpeter are contemplating the DH110 as well as the Sea Fury.

On IPMS Phillipines in The review of the Eduard Fulmar a mention is made of all of the FAA 48ths released over the past couple of years.....

As another wish for FAA fans has been granted by the release of this cleanly designed and underrated, yet significant FAA aircraft, the release of a number of 1/48th scale FAA aircraft in the recent years like the Roc, Skua, Barracuda, Albacore and the Firefly (and the Sea Hornet, Wyvern, Sea Venom, Attacker, Seahawk Sea Venom and the Gannet for post-war aircraft) makes one hope that the promise of a 48th Sea Vixen will not be too far away.

Now IPMS Philipines is where we get most of our first looks at Trumpeter stuff, though maybe they are mentioning the promise of a Czech molded kit. But then again maybe not.

No. Not MPM kit either. All-new Airfix tooling.

The Sea Vixen has been a yearly rumour every time the Nats come around, what's interesting is the kits that are being done that no-one rumoured, while that were being touted (VC-10 anyone?), zilch,

Glad to hear this one confirmed... incidentally, I picked up a set of resin intakes from Roy Sutherland & Lee's new venture today - they're meant for the Dynavector kit (which I have), but they're worth bearing in mind in case the new Airfix kit ends up with crappy intakes ;)
