Duvet Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 There ought to be a Hawk sub-forum started on here with the number of Hawk related questions that turn up, unfortunately I'm only adding to the tally... Had a good Google and BM search, but not been able to find any decent pictures of the Hawk nose gear (presumably because it's too small to get a head up in there). The walkaround on here is good, but I'm after some shots of where the undercarriage leg is bolted/ hinged to the aircraft, a lá: (from the Hawk walkaround). Cheers guys.
Scarlet Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 The nose leg fits almost flush to the sides of the nose wheel bay save for the bushes. The mounting/hinge pin is accessed via two small panels either side of the fuselage. There is no bolts as such to be seen from inside the wheel bay. If you go to the walkround section there is some photos of a Red Arrows jet under maintenance and the panels can be seen - just.
Duvet Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Cheers, so not too much extra detail to add to the leg then. I was also interested in the retraction mechanism seen just to the fore of the leg in the pic above (if that's what it is), although in 1/48 this will likely just end up as a small scratched chunk of plastic. Hawkkeeper Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 (edited) nose leg has 2 pintle pins secured to the leg top casting & fuselage drag beams by 2 x 13mm hex head bolts, the pintle pins are fitted through the 2 small circular panels on the lower skin [1 panel each side] these fit from inside out forming a pressure seal. the nose leg extension/retraction jack fits behind the leg on the starboard side, the jack eye end is just visible in the photo, above the a/c's right hand upper casting. the rod in front of the leg is the link between the lock mechanism & the 2 doors these are connected together by a crossbeam at the very front of the bay & to doors front hinge by a drop link. my photos nose u/c leg, bay, doors just click on photo to make them bigger hth Edited May 16, 2012 by Hawkkeeper
