bootneck Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 I'm looking to scratchbuild some soviet softskins, such as utility vehicles; fuel bowsers; transporters; radio/radar trucks etc., to put in dioramas but can't find any details. Can anyone advise of where I can find plans or details for these types of vehicles? cheers Mike
Pin Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) There are quite a few of them already available as kits - what scale are you interested in? What subjects? http://hobbyport.ru/venicle/gaz_66.htm http://www.a-time.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5872&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 http://www.ural-market.com/unitautotech/atz-10-ural-4320-40 (click on second tab) http://www.mzsa-trucks.ru/automobiles.php?gr=315&id=141 http://www.tgauto.ru/toplivozapravka.php?id=35 Quite a few vector drawings here http://model-copy.ru/product_info.php?products_id=163846 Edited November 14, 2012 by Pin
bootneck Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 Hi Pin, my interest is 1:144 and I'm looking to do a military airfield dio with some vehicles dotted around. Also I'm thinking of doing a SAM site type dio so would be looking for radar and radio vehicles as well as any small utility trucks etc. Thanks for the links Mike
Niall Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 This book had 1/76th scale drawings of SA4, SA6 and SA8(There are drawings of many other armoured and combat engineer vehicles as well). There are drawings of the launcher and radar vehicles for the SA4 and SA6. There is also a side view of the SA4 reload carrying truck. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soviet-Tanks-Combat-Vehicles-Present/dp/0853687439

Has anyone got an example page that can be posted (or pm'd to me) to see the quality of the drawings? Thanks again Niall, Mike
Niall Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 The drawings are done by Steve Zaloga who is a well known model maker and author. I found this link after a quick search - http://die-cast-army.over-blog.com/categorie-10169552.html The drawing three quarters of the way down the page looks similar to the drawings in the book.
bootneck Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 Thanks Niall, I'll order one of those books. I would be grateful to hear of any other sources as well. cheers Mike
Niall Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Found this on Google - http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-Rus-SAM-Site-Configs-A.html There are a couple of SA3 drawings on this site, in the "Weapons" section and a lot of Russian trucks in the Trucks section - http://www.the-blueprints.com/ I forgot to add that I used Zaloga's M163 drawing from Modern American Armour to make a 1/35th scale model on the Tamiya M113.
bootneck Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks Niall, that Aussie site is interesting as it shows more road vehicles. I'm not so interested in the tracked stuff as my interest is airfields and perhaps a SAM site. Thanks again Mike
Pin Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Eastern Express is going to release some Russian airfield vehicles in 1:144 shortly: Edited November 19, 2012 by Pin
bootneck Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks Pin, that's just the sort of stuff I'm looking for. Thanks for posting this. I just need to identify a seller/distributer in UK cheers
bootneck Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Usually Hannants stocks all EE novelties. Hi Pin, I've just received set #2 of the airport vehicles sets from Hannants and they appear much better than the original cad drawings show. The nice thing is that each truck comes with clear windscreens, plus a very nice decal sheet with Airline company logo's which allows one to choose which airline each vehicle represents. cheers Mike
